Personally I’d take this as LA. 3 years of Macklin on an ELC + cap space for a goalie > Byfield at 8 mill

If someone offered me Byfield for Celebrini, I take the offer and then swap Caufield for Boldy!

An undersized left wing does not address the hole Kopitar leaves.

A dynamic defensive large bodied left wing who can play center fits LA's goal to be competetive while Kopitar is still here. Byfield fits the role of a quiet big bodied player whose flash is subdued by the solid defense he brings. That is exactly what LA wants to build around.

Celebrini, like Slafkovsky, will need a few years before we really see what he can be. Blake wants the Kings to go for it with Kopitar while he is still here. Byfield breaking out this season makes moving him a near impossibility.

That's quite the statement for someone who hasn't played a single year in the league yet. Kings will bet on what they've got. This isn't a Connor Bedard/Connor McDavid type player.

I mean the Kings can likely bridge him if their goal is to be as competiitve during Kopitar being here and he can get more in 2 years. I don't think that's the right move, but if they are committed to Kopitar being here. Yeah $4-6Mx2 for Byfield who is an established top-line player looks a lot better than Celebrini on his ELC who has never played a single professional game.

Good thing you aren’t a GM, you would get fired so fast after mediocre trades

I don't see either Montreal or Minnesota agreeing to that trade. At best, If their production is consistent and the teams have similar success you will have fan constantly second guessing the move. If that doesn't happen someone is losing their job.

I'm on the fence with the Byfield for Celebrini but I'm leaning toward Byfield.

Easily Eichel level minimum . Also one of the youngest players in the draft and youngest in college

there isn't a GM that has ever worked in the NHL that would turn down Celebrini for Byfield. The slafkovsky statement shows that you definitely haven't seen celibrini play. He's dominating college hockey in a way you almost never see as a 17 year old. he looks like patrick kane 2.0.

Well there is one GM who can trade Byfield, and I doubt a draft winner would trade Celebrini.

I think it's ok for a GM to stick to their #2 overall pick who just busted out in a big way. Like I said above, Kopitar has 2 years of compete left in him, and Blake positioned his team to be comptetitve now. If you believe Celebrini will be a stud out of the gates with very little time needed to adjust I respectfully disagree.

Very very special players are top-tier players immediately out of their draft year. Just look at how quickly sites like this trash top-5 picks, it takes a year or two to really get their game on track. I'm not saying it can't happen, but you are saying every GM would risk there job to say Celebrini will be better than Byfield, even though Byfield has proven himself to be a top-line NHLer at the age of 21.
