The thing im concerned with going into next season for TOR is not what the team is gonna look like but goaltending

Woll's health has come into question and I just dont know if you can rely on him as the starter

The goalie market is meh this year for FA and considering this teams 4 year window say go trade for a guy like Saros who can play 40-50 games and help yah win

Brossoit-Woll would be a great option and wouldn't require any assets. Stolarz-Woll or Nedeljkovic-Woll is close.

Going to get Markstrom, Ullmark, Binnington, Gibson, Gustavsson, or Vejmelka are either too expensive in assets, cap space, or not an improvement on the above UFA's, IMO.

The issue is neither of those guys has played over 30 games of a season besides Ned but look at the results 0.901 and 0.902 not good. Also neither of those guys are difference makers/upgrades over what we had last year. Brossoit is a glorified backup and Stolarz may be able to play 40 games but who knows the results may be to much for him especially with injury prone Woll as the partner. Considering the health issues of Woll way to risky as either of those guys could become the starter by game 15

The guys you listed for trade have been able to play 40+ games and many have put up respectful results

Similar thing happened a few years ago where Avs traded for Kuemper in a similar position and won a cup. TOR should look to do the same as this goalie market sucks and considering Woll's health issues and the team's limited window risks may have to be taken

Go get Saros and solidify the position for the first time since Fredrick Anderson as its just to risky to go with Woll rn considering the injury issues its like late stage Murray

Rear Admiral is reporting that Sheldon Keefe will be the next head coach of the New Jersey Devils. Here are my thoughts about it (posted a few weeks ago)

Not going to lie, I'm curious to see what it will be like in New Jersey if Keefe gets hired. He's a solid coach, but he leans a lot on low-maintainance 2 way guy. Really likes his defensive specialists. Has a harder time incorporating younger guys into the lineup and struggles hard with less than average skaters. There aren't a lot of David Kampfs or Alex Kerfoots on NJs roster.

I've got a feeling that Haula and Palat are in for good seasons if Keefe gets in. Holtz will not get the playing time he deserves, Clarke will be a scratch, Meier will suffer, and Siegenthaler - Marino is going to get a lot of ice time.

Really curious how his structure will apply to a team that can afford to have a deeper forward group. I think he is going to love that blue line

Keefe has a hard time incorporating certain players into the lineup. He relies a lot on players with decent skating mechanics to get the puck up ice. Doesn't seem to be a big fan of controlled entries, played a lot of dump-and-chase in Toronto (which never worked due to toronto's lack of decent forecheckers). Loves his 4th lines. Seems like a solid dude in the locker room, but failed to maintain any kind of culture in Toronto. Also doesnt like attacking off the rush.

Curious to see how this unfolds for the Devils and I wish Sheldon nothing but the best

Per reports

LAK have chosen current guy Hiller to stay their HC

So that leaves SEA, WPG and SJS for teams needing coaches

Going Evason to SEA
McLellan to WPG
Granato to SJS

I never understood DJ back to TOR talks considering Marc Savard's probs on his way here

Like if the prediction is right/what I kind of hope lul

Boucher or Ryn = defense coach and away from PP
Savard = PP coach
Chynoweth = PK coach
Malhotra = faceoff coach

Unless DJ was gonna be eyes in the sky where the **** was he going

I’m finding the coaching carousel to be pretty funny right now, all of the below are head coaches too:
Berube: From STL to TOR
Keefe: From TOR to NJD
Ruff: From NJD to BUF
Green: From NJD to OTT

I was thinking Hronek could look good in Toronto but now today Vancouver fans are all simultaneously pointing out he hid from the media all year and seemed petulant this one time he was drug in front of them.

So he’s probably not a good fit for Toronto.

I don’t blame these dudes for not liking interviews and stuff but for big bucks top pairing d money you gotta go do that and not be whiny about it. It’s just hard to look at and think; yeah, I really want that in my leadership core. Bouwemeister was about a perfect example of dude who seemed to hate it but went and did it occasionally and it was fine, never whiny, always kind and interesting, and he was helped that his market would totally leave him alone, 3 months passing with him avoiding the camera.

Hronek gonna end up in some mid tier franchise I guess. Columbus defense revamp number 8. Utah? Maybe Utah. It would be interesting to chart the careers of guys traded by Steve Y. I’m lazy.

It always amazes me how snarky some players in Canadian markets get with media. Hronek yesterday, pissy Draisaitl, and I don't see a ton of Matthews stuff but when I do he usually seems bothered to be talking to media. Like I get there's much more media pressure and general **** slinging in Canada when it comes to hockey, and maybe its an unpopular opinion given the whole personality in hockey movement, but you'd think someone would just tell these guys to take the highroad and give a generic answer instead of giving the media more things to ramble about. I'm not convinced these guys can totally tune out the media.

Apparently Jordan Schmaltz is playing insider now? Says CHI and BUF along with CBJ have shown interest in Waddell. From a CHI pov, pretty sure Davidson was given full autonomy over hockey operations when he was hired and I doubt ownership would go over his head to hire someone, probably looking at an AGM or advisor role. I'd guess the same would be true for Buffalo.

I believe Waddell's contract was up, not necessarily odd assuming he/Carolina wanted to move on

Yeah, terrible timing for contract dates by the organization (should have amended dates prior 110%) esp. w/ draft on "short final"!!

It's apparently been GM by committee for a while now, with Tulsky and Darren Yorke making a lot of the calls. Tulsky has been behind a lot of the Canes drafting success so for that aspect I'm not too concerned. Other organizations have been trying to poach Tulsky away, so the Canes may have let Waddell walk in order to create space for Tulsky to be their full time GM.

Tulsky is kind of an interesting story. He has a PhD in Chemistry from Harvard. He started out as a Flyers fan blogger in the early 2010s, got hired as an analyst in 2014, worked his way up to Assistant GM and now he's a full GM of an NHL team. Who knows, maybe the GM of a cup winning team in 2040 is posting ****ty Marner trade proposals on this website right now.
