This is based off a few assumptions:

Chicago is not trading down in the draft to acquire a position they have absolutely zero need to address. They have younger and better LD already on the roster.

That final trade is wild. Those players do not make up that difference at all.
The other trades are a maybe depending if those teams think their guy will fall to them.

Barron, Harris, Evans and Mesar aren't valuable enough to move up that many spots. If you want Tij take him at 5th.

But I want Celebrini @ 1 lol tears of joy
I think Friendly Cannon is right, maybe have to add CGYs 2025 1st rounder for that pick

The 1st two trades are jut as bad, I see Montreal ACGMs trading away Harris and Barron for 3rd round picks all the time, so adding a 3rd doesn't move you up 7 or 6 positions in the first round.

The Hawks have Vlasic and Korchinski as their top 2 at LD and have several promising prospects competing for the 3rd pairing LD spot. It just doesn't make any sense for them to downgrade a pick to add at their strongest position.

The problem is they're worth more than 3rd round picks....that's undervaluing them. They're both young Dmen, who will be staple 3rd pair for a while, and I think Barron will be Petry 2.0, and age well into his late 20s.
Sometimes I think people rly overvalue draft picks. A 3rd round pick has like a 10% chance of turning into an NHL player of 4+ seasons. A 2nd round pick is like 25%. Both these guys are showing they will have 10 years +/-
I get what you're saying but I disagree with how ppl value them

You look at all the draft pick value charts and to move from 20th to 14th the cost would be around the 30th overall pick, is Barron worth that?

There are going to be dozens of 3rd pair d men available for free on July 1st how valuable do you think they really are?

UFAs? Who are 28 years old + and are looking for big pay days?
These guys are 22/23/24 years old and cost controlled, Barron doesn't even have Arb rights yet.
Cmon dude every GM would prefer RFAs with potential to improve compared to that.
Look at teams against the Cap like TML, TBL, Winnipeg who cant attract UFAs. Of course these guys are worth more than that

It is a really bad and risky idea to bank any top4 dspot on dmen who haven't even played 100 games in the big leagues.
Vlasic contract is bad IMO. I know everyone disagrees. But imagine Korchinski and Vlasic coming to training camp next ear thinking they have a top4 spot in the bag. Makes for horrible competition in the lineup and doesn't spur growth

Then trade them to Toronto, Tampa or Winnipeg. San Jose could draft a potential top 2d like yakemchuk at 14th, why would they give that up for Barron?

I'm sure both Chicago and San Jose rather just make those picks. Alot of teams have guys like Harris and Barron, they aren't a hard to come by commodity. I'm not knocking them as I think they can both be players it's just they aren't hard to find. There are UFAs that yes will be more expensive but they are also better, if the team wants to compete now than that's probably the direction.
When talking about 20th overall, there may very well be some players rated top 15 fall to that pick. That's not as likely to happen at 27. So if they like a player at that spot, they take that player.
Similar with 14 overall. Alot of good players in the top 15 but someone who that team feels is top 10 might fall to them. Again they take that player.
Same same with The Seattle pick, top 5 could fall to 8.
The biggest flaw is the fact you have teams trading their picks before they even know who is available. So no chance that happens at all. The teams will have to know who's available at their pick before trading it and know that a player that value is likely going to be available at that later pick.

If the Sharks are trading that Pit #14 OA, it will be to move up for a Buium or Parekh. Barron doesn't move the needle enough for the rebuild time line.

What sucks is that trade offer. Hawks definitely aren't trading back to acquire another LD.

Take value of trades out of equation. Neither Chicago nor SJ are trading back from those positions when the draft is still at pick #7.
