My turn as Torontos President 2024 off season

Created by: V123
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 5, 2024
Published: May 5, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’m now president of the Maple Leafs. My first movie is to Fire Keefe and entire coaching staff. Hire Craig Burbe as HC.
Nest is BT as G.M. I take over as G.M for now and these are the moves I do.

Trades- All trades happen leading up to the draft and the SJS one happens on the second day of the draft.

1st trade- Marner is no doubt a good regular season player, but when it comes to the playoffs, he can be questionable. He’s making 11 million for one more season and we need to break up the core 4. Welcome in Novak, Evangelista and a second rounder. Are we undervaluing Marner? Probably, but I rather get good top 6 options that I know can be great.

2nd trade- Tavares needs a cheaper contract. So we trade him to Buffalo so they can buy him out and then we sign him in FA to a cheap contract. Give Buffalo picks for compensation.

3rd trade- All those players need a change of scenery and all together, could be worth more then a first, but whatever. We take whatever we can take for those players.

4th trade- Instead of buying Kampf out, we retain 50% on him, which will be cheaper then buying him out. We get Johansen back in the deal. Yes, he’s most likely LTIRetired, but we take back a contract from Philly, so we essential give Kampf 50% retained away for Future Considerations.

5th trade- We need a decent backup goalie and I believe Vanecek can be that goalie. Has been good in the past and had one bad season. He give up a late draft pick for him and hopefully he can rebound.

Draft day-
18th overall selection- Cole Hutson.
23rd overall selection- Terik Parascak.
53rd overall selection- Yegor Surin.
Rest of selections don’t matter.

FA moves-
Connor Dewar- good depth option that looked good with the Maple leafs. Bring him back on a cheap contract.

Max Domi- looked good with the maple leafs. Bring him back long term and the contract will Age like fine wine (hopefully 🤞)

Ilya Lyubuskin- Good depth option. Can play the third Line. He looked very good in the Boston series so bring him back for two years on a cheap contract.

Teddy Blueger- He is a good depth Center. Is a Stanley Cup champion and I can see him excelling with the Maple Leafs.

Matt Roy- Is a good defence. Toronto needs better Defence all around and I think Matt Roy is that answer. Lock him up 💵

Brandon Montour- He’s one of those Defence That has a great season, then a meh season. He just had a meh season, so hopefully this season is a great one. If he doesn’t succeed with us, then just don’t resign him.

Sebastian Aho- Decent depth option. Sign him for one year at 900K. Can play in the lineup if needed. Would prefer to see him play around 25-35 games in the season.

Denis Gurianov- Good AHLer. Can be a first call up guy if needed. Just depth.

Craig Smith- Good veteran that still has some offence to his game. Replaces Ryan Reaves on the 4th line.

Expectations are high for the Maple Leafs for the 24-25 and hopefully this squad can do it.
This is all from a VGK fans perspecive, so don’t take it too seriously.
Enjoy 😉😁

The Sabres definitely arent going to acquire Tavares just to buy him out for the Leafs. Also the leafs signing him to a cheaper deal immediately after would prompt a reaction around the league and the Leafs would almost certainly get slapped with some kind of punishment.

Hey, if it’s not in the rulebook, it’s fair game. No rule against to my knowledge at least.

Good deal for the Sabres. 10 million of dead cap for late 3rd&5th round picks is good business.

Leaf had to pay Carolina a 1st do buyout Marleau at 6M, not sure that gets a Tavares buyout done.

NSH likely is going to decline. Evangalista was one of our best players, and I won't argue that Marner is a superstar, but NSH isn't going to give him the money he wants.

NSH isn't trading someone they just resigned and one of their top performing rookies for rental, especially when NSH has other high performing RW's in system they just have to wait for in Wood and Kemell.

With Kemell likely to make the lineup next year, I just don't see Marner being a good fit in NSH.

Oh my. This is so disturbing it's almost glorious. The best part is making exactly the same draft mistakes the Leafs have made since they stopped popping top 8 picks like candy. Thank you for your service.

Not reading comments above. You've got to be kidding with the Tavares buyout. 10 million in dead cap for absolutely nothing. Add two firsts...actually scratch that. Try Arizona or Utah or whatever they are, because nobody is doing you a solid without charging multiple high end pieces, except maybe them.

Sharks would do it I think but I'm not sure Vanecek fixes any of the Leafs' goaltending woes.

The NHL announced very quickly after granting amnesty buyouts in 2013 that what you're describing here is 100% cap circumvention and is not allowed.

My understanding is that the league blocked the Lightning from doing that awhile back with Vinny Lecavalier. While there might not be a rule specifically stating that, IIRC there is a catch-all rule that essentially gives the right to the league to claim something is against the rules even if it isn't explicitly stated.

Marner with one year left is not going to get the haul you think
Buffalo not taking 2 low picks to eat 10.3M in dead cap so he can go back to Toronto. Starts with a 1st and prospect and even then I doubt Toronto is a team they want to help.
You are not getting a 1st from anyone for a bunch of spare parts and aHL players who you dont want
SJ might do that but Grier still needs antoher nhl goalie
Dont know why Philly would want Kampfdump for a guy they can just put on LTIR
Roy's number starts with a 6 and probably more in tax Canada
