Understandable but at the same time Arizona gets a decent defensive prospect and saves some cap space in order to swap out goalies.

As a Sabres fan, just curious.... why do Caps fans seem to ready to ditch Kempny. Wasn’t he a top-4 Dman when you won the cup? He’s not expensive or old. What’s the problem?

Would you do it without the draft pick? That would still save Arizona some cap space and give them the younger defenseman who’s signed for a couple more years.

I’ll admit I’m surprised by Sabres fans. Yes Faksa has a down year. But he’s a perfect placeholder imo for Cozens. He can handle major defensive responsibilities, adds a size/physicality element, and can chip in 30+ points every year no matter where he plays in the lineup. He’s a better version of Larsson, and we need that type of player that can handle those minutes.

Playoffs or Bust
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>McRanteskog</b></div><div>did you click the link?
did you scroll to the bottom?
did you look at the chart?</div></div>
Yup. The one that shows his “pNHLe” like I said above? It’s an “expected point calculator”.
It does NOT reflect his projection as a player, just points. As I said, his POINT PRODUCTION was ESTIMATED BY THAT CALCULATOR as a 2nd line player, dipped a bit in 2019, and is back up to a top-6 player currently. In the chart he’s literally currently listed as a 2nd line point producer if his AHL was calculated to the NHL.
But according to prognosticators around the league,
Going into the 2018-2019 season, he was seen as a top-5 prospect league wide. Then he was rushed as a 19yr old who played one year of college hockey and was not anywhere near ready for NHL play. Bitter I’ll did this again in 2019-2020, for half the season then Mittelstadt was sent to Rochester.
He simply wasn’t NHL ready. He needs conditioning in the AHL and to find his game there.
I’m not saying I believe he’s a top line forward. I’m saying that he had that said about him.
But regarding the chart you keep referring to, it currently has his production in the AHL translating to that of a 2nd line NHL forward

^ below a first/second line projection (wasnt even first line ceiling at the time of being drafted)</div></div>
If you’re looking at the PNHLe, it’s an expected point calculator, not necessarily a projection of the players role as an NHL player. If you read the initial synopsis it says,
“Dynamic offensive player who brings speed and creativity to the ice every shift, more than a complementary top-line player who is capable of driving offense himself.”
So he was projected as a top-line player, his development tailed off during 2018 and 2019, and the. Slightly rose back as he gained his footing in the AHL. His point production currently translates to a 2nd line forward. So he has top-6 upside, as in a 2C

I understand he’s now viewed this way. Hindsight is 20/20. In September of 2018 Corey Pronman of the Athletic had Dahlin as his top NHL prospect. Mittelstadt was #3 in the entire league. I’m not saying he will be this good. I’m saying that there were people saying this about Mittelstadt and that if he gets stronger he has the ability to be a top-6 forward in the league.

3yrs? He’s 21. 3yrs should he was 18 and rated by many amongst the top prospects in the game. He fell off real quick because he wash rushed into the league when needing more development.
I’m not saying he’s a top-line guy, but I could see his high being a legit 2C and his low being a .3rd line LW. He has tools he just needs a team/coach who can help develop his game.

I believe Mittelstadt could be a 2C if he pans out. He could end up more on the wing. He reminds me a lot of Turris. His initial development was de-railed when they brought him into the NHL as a 19yr old and he didn’t have the strength at the time to play against grown men after playing HS hockey and then basically one year of NCAA.

As a fellow Sabres fan, I just think Hjalmarsson is a good fit with our young D like Dahlin, Jokhiharju and Ristolainen. I would move Montour & Miller in order to fit Hjalmarsson, who can play either side, has won multiple cups and can play smart hockey to allow someone like Dahlin to really flourish offensively.

What would it cost? Or what would Columbus be looking for in exchange for Savard? I saw somewhere that he could be a potential trade candidate, maybe not?

Damn I’m really torn</div></div>
I do believe the injury does lessen his value. I also believe it does help San Jose with a potential rebuild.
Mittelstadt’s Early development was hindered by forcing him to play in Buffalo, but I believe he’s on track to be a top-6 forward.
Montour adds youth and speed to the lineup.
The first rounder will be a lottery pick. I didn’t put any protection on it, but probably should’ve done a top-3 protection.
Hutton is more of a place holder and the fact he’d probably start over Martin Jones.

Pretty sure you have to be under the cap and start the season under the cap before you can put Clarkson on LTIR. Therefore you’d still need to shed another $3M or so somewhere.
