Offseason 2
Just one Wild fans opinion here, but I wouldn’t trade Boldy straight up for Marner. He’s super young, ascending and on an awesome contract. Unsurprisingly critical fans have taken the GM to school for things they don’t like. But the roster doesn’t have any anvil contracts - keeping Boldy and his $7m figure helps preserve that flexibility for years to come.

Call Me Crazy This is a Playoff Team Part 2
Obviously the other three trades are where the action is here, but to comment on the Wild perspective, I don’t think (hope not) BG would have any interest in parting with a second this year for players who are sort of bottom of roster albeit legit NHLers. He has a bunch of those, too many really, he can’t sign them all. So I suspect the move is more of packaging picks and prospects to get young prospects with higher upside, or higher draft picks at least.
Neither player carries much salary, so it makes sense to offer up to the Wild, but they would basically only be able to displace Wild players with similar AAVs.

He's definitely netting at least 1st round pick. With PHI having the 7th OV, I would guess a trade would be around a cost controlled C or prospect. I don't think Frost would be available but who knows. Probably Cates (I think Noah) is more likely to be available, he also happens to be a Minnesota native.</div></div>
Definitely getting a first round pick? I hope you’re right. Wild seem to have tanked his value, so I’ll be shocked if his value is a first.

In short, I don’t know. Maybe they wouldn’t. My write up suggests I don’t know know where to project him, but I suspect someone would be willing to part with a late pick and take on his full salary for what he still brings on ice and in locker room.
I try to make reasonable trades but admittedly on the “for a 7th rounder” types I cut some corners on researching other teams depth charts and prospect pools.

In the event they have to trade him, I hope you’re right. But unless there are multiple teams interested that drive up the price, I don’t think the Wild get more than this. The offer sheet potential price seems to limit things in terms of a trade.
For what it is worth, I’d rather see them figure out how to keep him, but I think Foligno would have to be moved for that to happen (his 3.1m one of only places to find some relief).

I agree with the comment that the Hartman trade has picks stacked on the wrong side, but I dig the wheeling and dealing nature of this one. Acquiring players just to trade them away…and then get ridiculed by opposing fan bases! It’s what ACGM is all about.

Steel gets more than a 7th - I would think more like a 4th or 5th for what he brings.
I would love to see Nyquist back on the team, but yea - only if they trade away a core player like Foligno. And I don't think Guerin does that unless the Wild are on the outside looking in come next season's TDL.</div></div>
Yeah, feedback here treating him like he is second coming of Jean Beliveau. So I overswung a wee bit it seems. Still think there is value for Addison despite Wild seeming to do everything they could to undermine his worth. Not sure then who, but Addison for a prospect of some sort.
And then on Steel, if I say 4th or 5th, then the team I do that with would chime in telling me how miserable he is! Ha. Love ACGM. Agree with you though that he has some value.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MMXD</b></div><div>So Detroit gets Scheifele and Connor? Where are you getting assets, cap space, etc. Detroit has more to figure out, scheifele isn’t really needed. Connor would be nice, but again you need the assets, and Detroit is fairly stingy. In hindsight I should have used the higher blues pick.
Minnesota I would say finds a way to make room. Dumba is gone which frees up around 5M on its own. Rangers weren’t supposed to get Kane and Tarasenko either and made it work. Doesn’t bother the Jets if the Rangers try their hand. Habs won’t give up a ton because they know he’s coming regardless.</div></div>
That’s the the thing with Minnesota, they can’t “find” the space. It just isn’t there, the cap penalties accelerate this season, and any “savings” from Dumba moving on have already evaporated into Boldy’s new contract. At risk of making ACGM boring this off-season as a Wild fan and turning everyone off from making deals involving our club, we’ll be closed for business it seems. (Would take something unexpected like Zuccarello/Spurgeon type of trade to open any of these kinds of possibilities)

Dumping Brilliance
Interesting for sure. Would be surprised to see Boldy not playing with Johansson BUT, to split them up in order to have Rossi get his shot between Nyquist and JoJo is intriguing for sure.
The only reason I doubt BG would pursue the moves to re-sign Dumba is that Wild have a D roster full of solid defensive players but don’t get much offense from them. That Dumba has become more and more that archetype as he’s aged is what makes him a roadblock on the roster for other younger players eventually who may be able to provide that necessary offense (particularly as Faber now comes in in that same mold).
The trades, to this biased Wild fan, seem to not bring back requisite value, but I get what’s going on here.

Sam Steel, to me, is who you have to be ok with given the extreme pinch salary cap wise. You don’t love him, and he cannot bein the top 6, but if he’ll come back for < $1m, you know he is reliable, can take face offs (not well, but calibrated to the Wild, he’s alright)) and I’d slot him in. But it is that very lineup spot that I would want to see the Walker’s, Beckman’s and Petan’s see time. Nyquist with Rossi gives a solid chance for success I think, and then try to find who else can be productive on that line.

If I am Wild GM I take that as it’s basically a trade of Foligno for Nyquist in this scenario(though I am not sure if that is the right number for him). Getting a third on top would be great. I like the idea of playing Rossi with a player like Nyquist next year way more than Foligno.

I’ll be bummed if they don’t accept what the last two years have taught us about the next two. That it is both necessary and in the long term interest of the team to play some of this youth. This lineup has no Beckman and no Walker and I’d be concerned about that.

Apparently Fiala Struggled Before Playing on a Line with Boldy
I share the sentiment that Boldy would be considered off limits. I actually think there is some thinking internally that Boldy was responsible for Fialas career year. I certainly do not share that and his play since 2019-2020 certainly corroborates the idea that Fiala is wonderfully capable with or without a player like Boldy. LA is going to be very happy with this trade. The ACGM Boldy proposal is fun for debate but I can’t see it happening.

Stillman and picks will likely be useful once Minnesota emerges from buyout years. But i think NJD fans are open to alternatives as long as they are reasonable.</div></div>
I agree with our friend here that the protection on the pick is likely only going to be granted for this years 2OA. The Wild I think would just take someone else’s offer that won’t have us waiting two years to draft. If I were BG though and NJD came to me with this, I’d indicate I don’t want Boqvist, and that I’d give you top 12 protection if you give me bottom 16 protection — if it’s a 17 or lower pick in 2023 (and this pushes to 2024) then I get your 2023 second while I wait to pick the following year.
In place of Boqvist, I wouldn’t do the trade unless I got Foote, Gritsyuk or Mukmawhateverhisnameis.
NJD is an ascending team and picking up a top scorer in this deal- they shouldn’t need the protection…it’s a trade there is inherent risk involved.

I’ve heard the same sound bites from BG as you, so I get it. But do you see us signing Fleury at a discount, to split time with Cam? I don’t see Fleury choosing that situation when he will surely have numerous options some of which are likely to look better for Cup chasing than the Wild do on paper. Guerin may want this but I doubt either of his goalies do.

I guess what I am saying is I think Guerin may end up not taking the “best trade package” as pundits would view it instead wanting to get his one good, targeted guy.

Isles Trade Packages For All Big Names
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>I might be in the minority but Mangiapane and Chychurn are both no-gos for me. Mangiapane has done his damage on the back of a crazy-high shooting percentage the past two seasons(19.2% this year and last!) and if he even drops from "insane" to "slightly above league average" you're talking about a 25-goal scorer. Not to say that's worthless, but I think swapping out Beau + 13OA for a 25 goal scorer would be an underwhelming return.
Chychurn is similar to me - he has one elite season (2020-21) during a truncated year playing only Pacific division teams - and as we saw this year, that division isn't all that strong. To me he profiles as a very good LD2/possible LD1 in a pinch, and the packages that have been tossed around in reference to that strike me as a bit much. I know his contract is part of his value, but it's not like it's a Mayfield-type of deal - he's still taking up a decent chunk of cap at LD2 and he would need to overperform this year's numbers to bring back surplus value on it.</div></div>
I like that take on Chychrun. I’ll be curious to see if GMs are as high on him as many in Cap Friendly seem to be. I’m with you that I think he still has a lot to prove and I’d never give up the bounty folks appear to want for him. And I’m in the “draft picks are typically overvalued” camp - I just don’t see him as some sort of top 10 Dman in this league and if you give up what AZ wants he better be.

There is some truth if you are in a one on one negotiation. But the cap situation and even the public remarks just make clear to everyone he isn’t keeping him. It is now a highest bidder situation and there will be several teams at least interested. The caveat of course is that he is a year away from UFA status, so he’ll have to be willing to sign a long term deal. I don’t see that as a problem as he’s money-motivated (and he should be), and when you have a season like he had (no it wasn’t just a few good months Guerin), your agent is going to convince you it’s time to cash in.

Sure. It’s sort of immaterial as this is a Wild roster projection - where they shuffle him off to doesn’t really matter but I suspect a number of teams would be cool swapping a second rounder for him and some other low pick.
