To avoid a terrible situation for team morale
It's a bit of a stretch to consider Galchenyuk an upgrade on Duchene. He want's to be a Center and the Avs have plenty of those, younger and cheaper. If you throw in a top-D prospect and a 1st rounder then maybe, just maybe you have a deal. But the bottom line is, the Avs have plenty of forwards (wingers) and now need to focus on D - this isn't solving a problem but rather causing clutter up-front.

This accomplishes nothing - Avs would rather risk a possible awkward and tumultuous locker room than making this trade. Duchene might miss training camp, but for his future, he'll show up to play just to prove his skill set. Teams will identify the need for a talent like Duchene fairly quick once the season begins and injuries, etc. occur.

Unfortunately, it's not up to the Isles whether JT moves on or not AND they can't trade him without his consent (modified no movement/trade clause). I believe if the Isles don't show Tavares that they mean business by signing another stud (Duchene) then he'll test the market.

Duchene Value
No one wants Maatta and the Avs don't need a Goalie prospect as well as a right-handed AHLer with little upside. Also, money retained? This is a poor effort.

Duchene
How is his value sky-diving? Teams that need a #2 center will look at Duchene and see someone that fits the NEED. Because the Avs are asking too much in return doesn't mean his value drops. Even if the Avs go into the season with Duchene, some team will lose a player and NEED a replacement, that's when the Avs get closer to their asking price. But overall, I think this is a fair trade, doesn't meet their need right away, but 1 - 2 years down the road this could prove to be great, or fair at the very least.

Just trade Duchene already, Joe!
R. Murray, B. Jenner and a prospect for Duchene would be more realistic. Bid Z will be back with the avs, just working on finalizing the term. Avalanche have nothing to lose this year, waiting on Duchene has been frustrating, but it will end better than what you think.

TOR, CBJ and MTL Trades
Tomcas: Based on the term and age of Barrie, I say Toronto absolutely makes that deal. As for Montreal, I agree they need a center, but they will not get that this year (Taveras next year) but they could use a Radulov replacement to supplement their offense for this season - maybe take away Morrow, but I still feel it's fair.

That's a strong lineup. Polak and Nutivaara as a 3rd pairing D-line looks nice as well.

We're better off hanging on to Duchene than making that trade. I'd rather see what we get at the deadline.

What would you suggest? I would be willing to send along Siemens or a higher draft pick, or instead of Pulock possibly take Dal Colle...thoughts?

<strong>grovercleveland</strong> - 1 year for a quality backup that could turn into a deadline dump and in return we receive a first and second rounder and De Haan. I agree with <strong>Peterman</strong> that NYI should throw in a prospect, or we remove Bigras from the trade altogether.

We have another year till we have to really shed of salary so I wouldn't expect anything but a good return if he was moved now. Everyone acts like eberle is bad. The guy is consistent 60-70 point guy beside his one down year this year sooooo I wouodnt pull the trigger on anything unless it is to helps us moving forward and gaining puck moving Tyson Barrie would be a plus. I would do eberle plus Caleb Jones for Barrie and a second</div></div>
Currently you have 8 players (if you remove Eberle) taking up close to $35mil after next season, add Draisaitl, Barrie and McDavid and that'll leave you with roughly $15mil to spend on 5 forwards and 3-4 d-men. Tough to do anything for that many players and that little available spend.

NYI and TBL trades and offseason signings.
I was thinking that a second rounder was more inline, but I'm hearing that Taveras want's Duchene and needs someone to play with if he's going to resign. I know Sakic want's a first rounder and with the weak draft and the fact that Hamonic has never played a full season, the Islanders will pull the trigger. The rumor is this is very close to completion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>I like the TBay trade, but PHI is giving up too much for Duchene. Why wouldn't they just draft Patrick and keep Ghost?</div></div>
With Provorov, Myers and Sanheim likely to be Philly's future on the backend, they pull the trigger on getting a skilled and proven forward. Patrick is unproven and isn't projected to have as large of a ceiling as Duchene. Plus, Duchene has played with Simmons and Giroux internationally. I see what you're saying here, but Gost was benched towards the end of the season so getting a large piece for someone they might not be sold on could be worth it.

Or simply trading Barrie and a second for the rights to Drouin. However, if you remove the Landeskog trade I actually kinda like this overall.

Decent overall, but big Z isn't a $4mm player yet. The Avs will likely bridge at around $2.5mm over the next 2 years. Also, in order to get Drouin the Avs will need to part with Barrie or several prospects/picks - I like Drouin and believe he, MacK and Rantanen would make an unbelievable line for several years to come.

I agree, but Comeau has playoff experience and is a more desirable target. I'm hoping Colborne is selected in the expansion draft, but no potential playoff teams wants him.
