They don't really need 3 late 1sts... KD was trying to move some draft picks last draft because even he thinks they have too many. You can only draft so many prospects, you need to give them room to grow. Look at all the 1st rounders Buffalo drafted and they're still in the depths of hell.

Out of The Box
I can't see Chicago gutting the roster after extending Dickinson, Foligno, and Mrazek recently. They clearly want to create a more consistent locker room environment for the younger players.

If they trade Jake they'll want a young current NHL player, neither Bourgault or Savoie are regulars in the league yet.</div></div>
I don't necessarily agree. They have the worst prospect pool in the league. Even if they wanted NHL ready pieces, they could flip them. Bourgault will be pushing for a spot next season for sure. I don't think a contending team wants to trade young, current NHLers for deadline adds. Especially ones that have the potential to be a rental.

EDM has their 2024 1st, Bourgault, and Savoie. They got everything Pittsburgh wants and needs at this point.

I'm sure a team will gamble on Kubalik at $1.25M, he's fairly low risk and additions like him can easily exceed expectations, happens all the time.

Deadline and Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlickWilly</b></div><div>I think Atkinson is an interesting case, similar to a Taylor Hall situation. Overpaid guy with skill who is potentially a cap dump, Hawks take him for free so Bedard doesnt get mental boomed playing with enforcers. Theres an argument to be made that if Hall isnt gonna be full force after this knee injury, Atkinson could be a good replacement. Decent points last season, decent pace this season. Not a whole lot going on in the FA market this year outside of the top guys. Only guys I would target would be Vrana, Zucker or Eberle, that would potentially be available on a shorter term. If Davidson doesnt feel theyre available, Atkinson could be an interesting pickup, assuming Nazar spends a year in the minors, Tyler Johnson walks, and if we dont get Celebrini our 1st this year doesnt join the roster. Something to consider, at the least, I feel</div></div>
I see your point, but Atkinson is considerably older, i'm not sure how much gas he has left in the tank. I'd prefer a younger player with a bit more speed.

Deadline and Offseason
I don't think any of these deals would be accepted by the other team. Atkinson is a cap dump, hawks could just sign free agents to hit the floor or get paid to take bad contracts like they have been for the past 3 years. EDM can't afford to move Holloway as he's their best hope for a top 6 F prospect. The only way they move Campbell is if they retain at least $1.25M, and he's flipped with additional retention by the receiving team. Late 1st and Brink for Zegras is a lowball offer, they'll get something better. Don't think Risto is worth a 2nd and prospect either. Tough to evaluate with his injury history.

San Jose could get that offer without retention, Tampa is in a tough spot, I don't think selling is a good message to send, but if one more top guy gets hurt I don't think they'll have a choice. Stamkos could help them recoup a 1st easily,

Losing my mind over the Lindholm deal
Lindholm is in a down year, so your concern is certainly valid. I think it's a home run for CGY. Kuzmenko has a high ceiling in the right situation and could easily net them another 1st rounder next year. They didn't have to use a retention slot, and got a top prospect and 1st back. This was Vancouver's best way to get out of the Kuzmenko contract, it also saves them some cap as well. An older swede to take Petey under his wing as well, could be a nice little negotiation ploy from Allvin as well.

The Miller situation
He's a really good player in a slump. Over the past decade, i've seen a similar title/description for Erik Karlsson, Morgan Rielly, and many others. He's still young, let him continue to develop. The best way for him to develop is to fight through this adversity. He'll become a better player for it.

Trotz is making calls
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OkMan</b></div><div>I’m totally in agreement with you there. However, this was a response to Trotz saying he’s looking to “find the right pieces.” I gotta assume that means he’s looking to make moves.
For me, trading Saros would be the preferred option. We could get a good RD prospect + a 1st probably. I’d be down for that. Seamus Casey always comes to mind in the scenario
Edit: I do think there’s a lot of potential in this roster though. Evangelista and Tomasino are both offensively-gifted play drivers, but both lack opportunity due to the structure of the team. Afanasyev, Svechkov, ZLH, Kemell, and Askarov are looking solid in the AHL too. This team has plenty of talent coming up, but you’re right in saying that they lack a true 1C/1RD. However, I think the Preds would be more keen on making draft day moves than on selling off a large part of the roster. Trading into the top 10 to draft a guy like Helenius or making a Saros deal to add a 1st and a guy like Casey are probably more likely than a full on tank.</div></div>
I agree, I don't think it's a full on tank, but certainly a retool. Saros trade is long overdue, he's one of the few goalies that would easily net a 1st in a trade. I like Tomasino and Evangelista as well, but they're not high end top 6 guys, more so secondary scorers. They need more elite, top end talent and the easiest way to get it is via the draft. I can't think of any player on the market now that could have a big enough impact outside of Guentzel, and i'm not convinced Pittsburgh trades him.
To me "Finding the right pieces" is vague. Could mean adding prospects too. Trotz is a secretive guy, we won't really know until closer to deadline. I just can't see this team and prospect pool contending in the west for the foreseeable future given it's current state.

I think this team needs to be more aggressive and accumulate picks. I get they're in a wild card spot, but there's no way they can make a deep run the way the west is loaded. They need to draft a 1C and a RD. This roster is not strong, the results are a product of the system.

I see it as a cap dump for FLA. They need to extend Forsling/Reinhart/Montour. Crunched the numbers and it's going to be tight. Lundell is the 2C of the future for them, I can see Bennett being the odd man out.

Perfect Balance
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Affectionate_Side_64</b></div><div>Not a lot in my opinion. Let's not forget last year was the first year in almost a decade that he dipped below a PPG, the same year Nylander finally hit a PPG. Kane had 45 points in 54 games on an awful roster, with a bum hip. He got the surgery and took the time to recover to improve his injury, and he has some of the best doctors in the world around him. Sure, Nylander may outproduce him, but Jones should also massively outproduce Lily. Regardless, the slight dip would be worth it to address our greatest concern right now, that being a D core that is bottom 10 in GA/G and PK%. This always addresses our D longer term, and allows us to save our draft capital instead of spending it on bargain bin solutions to the top 4 at every TDL (Gio, Schenn, Lyubushkin, McCabe, etc.).
Defense matters, our defense core sucks, real bad....</div></div>
Nick Backstrom had the same procedure done and is likely retiring. It's a very, very difficult surgery to recover from, let alone regain the power to compete in the NHL again. It's not going to be easy for Kane.
You're making this team significantly older, which is a common theme of the leafs in real life. Sandin trade, you want to move Liljegren, what's next? Sometimes you just need to hold onto your pieces and let them come together. This roster has faced far too much turnover and the result is in their playoff success.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Even if Kane does put up the same or more, for how long? Every player going to the Leafs is also older than Nylander except for Raddysh who is the same age as Liljegren. So, really they would be shrinking their contention window a ton. Obviously, CHI isn't the team to be giving up young players for Nylander but if the Leafs aren't at least getting some younger pieces, it's definitely not worth it. I know Murphy and Jones are younger than Jarnkrok and Brodie but that doesn't change much for me.</div></div>
I'm telling you right now, there's no way he does. Trades/signing don't make sense at all.
