CANES FANS- Thoughts on Skjei deal so far
He's been fine. Not great, not awful. He's had to play on his offside a little bit bc of Pesce and Hamilton's injuries, so it'll be interesting to see how he'll do on the left side with pesce next season.

Trading for MTLs 1st Rounder
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Well the first problem is assuming the Habs have the 9th pick. We don't how the season will end yet and based on points % the Habs could get 8th pick. After the lottery we could potentially move down to 10th or 11th for all we know so it really depends. We simply don't know yet. The second is assuming they have to choose between Lundell or Quinn right now. What if its Perfetti? What if its Rossi? What if its Holtz?
But ultimately its a gamble either way. It really depends on who is available and how lucky you get with their development. We've seen Fleury's development so far and its not inspiring. We've seen Suzuki's development so far and its not inspiring. Bean has been very decent but is he better than who you think you can get with the Habs pick? You clearly don't think so being the one willing to make this trade from Carolina's perspective. Why would the Habs think otherwise? Like I said its probably fair value but is it enough to make anyone want to accept? Not sure. Im very much on the fence leaning towards no. Still feels like quantity over quality. Until the quantity makes up for the lack of quality (in comparison to the 9th pick) I don't think id accept.</div></div>
Fair. But the reason why the habs would value these three players more than the canes would be the bro combos. That's why I chose the habs and not some other team in the 7-10 range.

Trading for MTLs 1st Rounder
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Even though the value may be fair I think the Habs would probably prefer the chance of a real stud with that pick. This is the age old question of quality over quantity. I tend to want the quality but if the quantity gets to a certain point, I might change my mind. As is I can't say I would yet although the players involved are nice pieces. Just not enough of a wow factor to say yes.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>math731</b></div><div>You picked the wrong team for that kind of trade (even if teams dont trade top 10 picks). MTL already have a ton of great prospects, we're better off taking an elite talent like Raymond, Perfetti or Rossi than get 2-3 ok guys</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sebybbq</b></div><div>Like my fellow friend mentioned Montreal have a lot of good prospect but need that one who will emerge as a star. This year top 10 prospect have that potential so Montreal will stick with it.</div></div>
All fair points, but say you draft Quinn or Lundell at 9. Are either of these players going to be stars that are worth more than Suzuki, Bean, and Fleury combined?

Prospects By Tiers
Who are you thinking the canes should draft in the 1st round this year? I'm thinking Jacob Perreault- right shot winger, one of the best shots in the draft, rees's linemate. He seems to fall in the 15-25 range for the draft so right in the canes ball park. Seems to be pretty bad defensively though

It's not just point production, it's the success of the team surrounding him. If you're throwing out an "unlucky" defenseman in a crucial game 7, it probably won't end well (just ask leafs fans).

I don't want unlucky players on my team. If you go through a ten game stretch where the puck doesn't go in that's one thing. But Gardiner has been "unlucky" his whole career and is showing no sign of ending that trend.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jamiepo</b></div><div>4th on the canes. I would put him on par with a player like hischier for value.</div></div>
Hischier is a fair comparison. The core of the canes consists of Aho, Teravainen, Svech, and Slavin. Necas is certainly making a strong case to join this core, if he hasn't already so he's not gonna be traded.

I understand that analytics are important, but at some point you have to use the eye test. Just out of curiosity what are your thoughts on Gardiner's play this season, analytics aside?

That stat line doesn't really mean anything as the sample size is too small (6 games). Dumba > gardiner.

Colorado Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffbry</b></div><div>This is more of a win for canes then avs. It's a no deal, why would the avs take on Gardner and his terrible contract and trade the one guy in the league who can stop macdavid. This isn't gonna fly for avs</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Aussie_Blackhawk</b></div><div>This looks terrible for the Canes. Suziki is a great prospect, Kaut has struggled in the AHL. Zadorov helps the defence and can be considered slightly more valuable then Gardiner though I still feel like you are not getting a fair return.</div></div>
So if arguments are made against this trade from both sides isn't it a good trade?

I would personally like to see nino-aho-dzingel svech-staal-teuvo foegele-haula-necas mcginn-wallmark-martinook. Based on what I've seen, Dzingel and Nino are pretty invisible if they don't have an elite center whereas svech and teuvo have proven that they can produce offensively without aho. Staal and Haula are interchangeable in the lineup I created.
