Realistic opening roster
I see the Svech to Carolina deal all the time. While I would love to make a deal why would any team give up a legitimate prospect for a guy who has yet to play a full season of pro hockey, and coming off an ACL tear. I loved the pick and the prospect Svechnikov., but no team is going to risk making a deal for him.

Wings Offseason
I like the idea of taking on bad contracts, but I don't think the Toronto deal is realistic. Toronto will not give up a top prospect to move the Marleau contract (not trade clause?). Same goes with Tampa Bay, they won't package a first with Callahan just to move him (NTC?). I think Detroit could ask for a 2nd and maybe the following years 3rd/4th. In terms of Toronto the deal would most likely involve a mid level d prospect (kind of like Bowey from Washington).

My ideal line-up MONMINTOROTTDET
I like Brodie, but I don't think Detroit will commit a top 40 pick for him. If we wanted to talk a different second rounder or even a 3rd and another mid round pick I would say yes. But Detroit also has to figure out how to get rid of a lot of dead weight. Detroit has to make at least one move if not two to take on Brodie. If Kronwall returns Detroit would need to find a way to move two of these three defensemen: Green, Ericsson, and Daley.

Steves Team
The Winnipeg, and Edmonton deals aren't realistic. Ericsson was analytically the worst defenseman in the entire league. Bernier is a back up goalie and nothing more. Winnipeg would demand at least a first round pick or a legitimate star prospect. I like Rasmussen a lot, but him and Lindstrom aren't even close to getting you Trouba.

Flames - reshuffling TOR DET FLA
Detroit is very high on Lindstrom. I do not think they are moving him for depth centers and a 3rd. I appreciate the trade with younger guys, but young grinding centers is not the need for Detroit (we have plenty of crappy contracts with 3rd/4th line centers). They need high end talent, and I don't see that with Jankowski or Czarnik.

They are burying Abby because he is absolute trash. He isn't a grinder, hes not fast, he doesn't play overly physical anymore, and he can't score. He is a complete waste of space. Let a younger guy play in 3rd/4th line position. Ehn, De La Rose, Glendening, and even Helm serve more of a purpose for this team in the bottom six.

yzerman year 1
10 million on the fourth line is absolutely criminal... but unfortunately for Stevie there isn't a thing he can do unless he wants to trade the only one worth while, Glendening, and I think he is actually a solid player to have on the team. Don't get me wrong I would still trade him if someone offered something solid for him, but I absolutely hate that fourth line.

Yzerman 1st year clean up
I am 100% on board with getting rid of Abby's contract. I don't really like giving up the second for that to happen, but I think thats the only way a team takes him. Unfortunately, I believe he has a no trade clause still this year and would have to waive it to move to Arizona (which he wouldn't do).

Starting the Detroit Rebuild
All three trades wouldn't happen. No team will take Abby at 4 million for four years. He is Holland's biggest mistake and one the organization has to live with. Marty Frk isn't worth a 3rd. He's cleared waivers in two straight seasons. Why would a team give up a 3rd when they could have gotten him for free in the last two seasons?

Draft day trade
As Detroit plays themselves out of the lottery I have liked the idea of trading back more and more. I think there is a huge difference in talent between Hughes and Kakko and everyone else. If we aren't in a position to draft one of those players I have zero problem trading back and getting another high level draft pick.

I would be very surprised if you needed to give up a first for Nyquist. I am guessing with this offer it would only take a second rounder and maybe a late round pick. As a Wings fan I am doing this deal in a second. I just think you are giving up more than you will need to for Nyquist. I am fine with the prospect, and from what it sounds like Holland is going to work the phones for prospects over picks this year.

Personally I would love this trade as a Wings fan. I don't think its close to fair though. Detroit would have to throw in AA, their 1st, and at the very least one of their second rounders to get pick 3. Not send Ouellet and get another 3rd rounder. Zadina is a pure goal scorer, and I would bet a majority of scouts and people in the league rate Zadina way higher than AA. Ouellet is nothing more than a 6th/7th defensemen at best and doesn't warrant a 3rd rounder.

Personally, I am taking K'Andre Miller with my last overall pick in the first round just to make sure I get him (I do not think he will be available with pick 30 or 31). I love his upside and think he would be an awesome pick late in the first round if Detroit can get him, and let him develop for another 2/3 years. He is still learning to be a defenseman and I think he would be a great high risk high reward pick to take a chance on.

Like the Detroit picks, I don't think Akil Thomas is there for Detroit's pick though. I also think if Detroit takes a goalie its later in the draft, I think Detroit wants to continue to load up on forwards and defensemen. I don't have a problem with the goalie pic, I just don't think Detroit goes with a goalie, and based how your draft goes I would think they would take a player like Bo Groulx

Mock draft 2018 please comment
Coming from the Red Wings end of this mock: Rumor is Bouchard is their number one preference after Dahlin when it comes to dmen. So if that is true than Detroit takes Bouchard over Hughes. With Detroit's second pick if K'Andre Miller were to be there still I think they would take him. I know it seems weird to take two defensemen, but if Miller is there they should definitely take a chance at him. If they took Bouchard and Miller, there second round picks would both be forwards.

I would love for K'Andre Miller to be there in the 2nd round for Detroit but I doubt he makes it past the 25th pick. With Detroits 2nd pick I would prefer Bo Groulx over Olofsson.

Detroit is in zero position to give up that to move up 3 spots. There is zero team that would do this... especially in such a deep draft.

I love both the picks for Detroit... just not in the same draft. Detroit is desperate on defense and taking Noel and Tkachuk in the first round would hurt. If Detroit knew Noel would be there at 27 (which probably isn't likely) they would take Bouchard. A perfect scenario with what you have here would be Detroit taking Bouchard at #6, taking Noel at #27, and then following that up with their two early 2nd rounders with the best available. Taking Noel and Bouchard hits two organizational needs, 2nd round picks can be used to add the best available player regardless of position.

Detroit is taking Boqvist, Bouchard, or Quinn. While I agree its always a good thing to have a surplus of Centers, Detroit needs a great D prospect. Those three all have great potential. Detroit is in better shape at center than they are at D with Larkin and Rasmussen.

Contending?
This team is not contending. Witkowski being on the third line... no team deserves to contend with him in the line up, let alone on the 3rd line. Svech should be up, and playing top 6. Bertuzzi and Abby are 3rd line guys. Rasmussen if he makes the team has to be a top 6 guy. Bertuzzi was a nice fill in in the top 6 but he is more of a 3rd line high energy guy, who can fill in top 6 if their are injuries etc.

Larkin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>I disagree. How many years will it take for Dahlin to become a 50-pt guy from the back-end? My guess is not very long. MTL would be dumb to risk losing Dahlin for Larkin, regardless of how desperately they need a center. This protection is for one player. I could see the argument if the pick was top-10 protected or something like that. I think pick 2-7 is a very solid return for Larkin. Still not sure why Detroit would want to trade him though, I thought he was coming along nicely as an all-around center. Detroit's 1st rounder should be plenty high enough to find an impact defenseman in this draft.</div></div>
Detroit needs so much help though. Trading Larkin would be counterproductive to their rebuild unless the pick was not protected. Landing someone like Dahlin is the only way Detroit would deal Larkin. With a 2-7 pick Detroit loses a center, and gains a winger or dman. Detroit needs help everywhere, but the most help is needed up the middle and on d. Trading Larkin just increases a positional need, and one where there isn't necessarily a center in the top 10 this year (primarily wingers and dmen).
