Projecting the lineup
Fully agree, just the 90-24-11 line is too solid and 92-14 seemed to be a thing. Going after a sizeable 2nd line with an avg height of 6'1/2, not bad for a small Habs team 😜 if not, Lehky up with the other Finns and RP on the 4th line

Have no idea why Habs do Flames the Neal deal. That's a trade that requires a 1st on their end and no Juulsen from the Habs.

How bad is vegas cap
Imo having a 4th line that costs over 5M is ridiculous and the cutting of players should start there. Also Karlsson will be 5.9x8.
Duchene is rumored to have already decided on NSH so I could see Montreal sending a 2nd rounder 2020 and a B+ prospect to take Stastny and McNabb off of Vegas' plate, alleviating 9M.

Wow you did not hold back. I feel like they're better off trading the majority of those contracts instead of buying them out. If Kappo is as good as he seems to be, in 3 years someone's gonna need to give him 8 figures.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tjbracken</b></div><div>They've got guys in the wings. Doug Wilson has done a ridiculously good job of not only hitting on the rare 1st round pick they keep but also signing long term the guys they trade 1st round picks for. In order to stay competitive, you have to find useful players later in the draft or via Free Agency which he has also done.
If they can avoid having to trade either, thats a very solid D-corps. If they have to trade one in order to keep enough pop up front, that can be done too. I'd be surprised to see them move both.</div></div>
true, but let a couple younger guys get some ice time. But yeah, Wilson's basically a hall of famer GM already.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tjbracken</b></div><div>Yeah, the point is, they have options. People are "gloom and doom" over the amount. That's the price of being a perennial contender. Have to pay to keep talent. Meier is the real priority, if he won't take a bridge like guys in the past, you pay what you needed to and move on from Labanc or it's a strong possibility they trade Braun or Dillon this weekend knowing that they can't re-sign them next year and they're now 3rd pair D at 3+.</div></div>
the two should be moved to alleviate cap space and get useful future assets. With 26.5M per year for 3 defs, you'll need to have some cheap ELCs for the next 6 years to still be contenders

CAL PIT trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>felixxx07</b></div><div>That's not a bad idea, sure Hudon might be a good cheap asset for Rutherford, and it's not a big asset for habs because he will not receive offer. If we trade for Jarry, Lindgren or McNiven have to be part of the deal, because with Primeau in AHL, we will have too much goalies. IMO Lindgren isn't enough constant to get the NHL backup spot, but Jarry is.
Basically, by giving up Lindgren (who would be useless if Jarry comes), and by giving up Hudon (who won't receive qualifying offer), it will downgrade the pick we offer from a 2nd to a 4th.</div></div>
Good point. only way this happens is pre-draft. Then, a qualifying offer can be put forward by the Pens to Hudon. I'm also not convinced that Lindgren has enough value to push this trade through. McNiven might be a better option on their end of things.

CAL PIT trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jimmmyg</b></div><div>I think the conditional pick is a smart move, and could totally be worth it in the end. Even if he does play in 20-30 games, his next contract would still come on cheap. I think your idea of a 3rd rounder (2nd if he plays in X of games) is enough to get the trade done in itself. Again, I just think it's so hard to gauge goalies and what they are worth until they play enough NHL games. But at least with Jarry it's more of a gamble for a future goalie rather than a back up, like Cam Talbot or Jake Allen would be.</div></div>
good point. I don't know if I see Jarry as a future 1A, but maybe a 1B once he has more experience and a guy like Spencer Knight is emerging in the NHL, he could fetch a pretty penny from a team in need. The Habs have Primeau as the heir-to-be (seems that way anyways) but it's never a bad thing to have too many good players and a desired position (see Anaheim sends Andersen to Toronto). My issue with Pittsburgh is that they'll only do this if they can flip the pick for tangible, win now assets, which is tough to do on a conditional pick

I don't mind the CGY trade but Lehkonen won't be moved, try Shaw and a 4th rounder instead. Also, love the enthusiasm on that Anaheim trade. Weise will be buried in the minors, Peca could be as well but could be included in a salary dump trade with 50% being retained by Habs. I like the idea of a VGK trade where we take back a LD and a forward with salary for Peca (50%) and maybe a pick or two, depending on the quality of players coming back.

CAL PIT trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jimmmyg</b></div><div>On the PIT trade, I don't think you would have to give up that much to get Jarry since goalies are such question marks when it comes to compensation. I would say Hudon and a pick is plenty, or even just a 2nd or 3rd rounder. I do like Jarry's game though, I think he's got a good shot at becoming a full-time split goalie and eventually can handle 60+ games. His reflexes remind me of MAF, but he is small so sometimes can get sniped. Overall good fundamental and quick goalie.</div></div>
Hudon should definitely be in Rutherford's mind, he'll come cheap. But he will probably do a Duclair and hit UFA status. As for the trade, why not do a 2nd if Jarry appears in 30 games (for the Habs) and the Habs make the playoffs, if not just a 3rd?

Nice projections. Can't help but feel that Shaw will be long gone by 21. And there's that Seattle Expansion Draft that year, which makes it tough to project the full lineup. Drouin will be protected if he can build off of last year in this coming season. Domi and KK will be, as will Mete, Weber and Price have to be, but after that, it's up in the air. Looking forward to this rollercoaster :P

Sorry, none of this makes sense. A) Lehkonen will sign for much more than that for 4 years. B) the trades are ridiculously one sided, not to mention that they make no sense for the other team - Flyers should keep Ghost, Anaheim cannot reasonably trade another D. However, Benn is looking like the best option if he takes a 1 year deal, but he will command between 2 and 3M easily, especially over 1 year. The market would gladly give him 3.5x3...also, Nick Suzuki is better off playing Centre for Laval than RW in a league where he'll get smushed, especially on 1st line. I do like the idea of Duchene and Domi, but try Duchene at 9x7. Using cap space to get assets is the best thing to do for the 19/20 and 20/21 seasons. Then, Poehling and KK need to get paid, among others, and the Canadiens can try and be competitive for several consecutive years

alright. It is common knowledge that he won't be back next season, though. A buyout for him would be over 4 years, whereas two years eating a retained salary makes more sense. What would you suggest as a sweetener?

I actually like this...Karlsson over 6 instead of 7 or 7 at 10M but whatever...and Lehkonen would probably want at least 3M for 2 years but who knows, maybe this could get done. The trade looks good in my books, although both 2nds seems like overkill. Why not 2nd (cbj) and 3rd (mtl)?

Big Karlsson trade
Interesting, consensus deal. But, TBL won't improve that much by acquiring Karlsson, although it would be neat to see a team with 3 top-2 guys on there. I've been wondering whether COL might be in on a trade, with Ottawa trying to reacquire their 1st rounder. Idk how it could look, but Karlsson could go to COL for a high defensive prospect, a middle six forward and 2019 1st OTT. I don't know COL well enough to name a prospect - maybe another 3-way blockbuster?

MTL quick fix 2
It would definitely fill the two holes. Getting the puck and keeping it off of the draw makes it considerably easier to not concede goals. Defence that we have isn't the greatest but it could certainly be worse. That's just put into perspective by the fact that the entire team lacks defensive awareness.

MTL quick fix 2
See it as a 3-way swap. Someone else is getting Lucic at the same time. Shaw is faster and can potentially play with McDavid to play the role Lucic is supposed to be playing right now in EDM, but with 2.1M difference. However, I agree that this one is a stretch. Maybe a team interested in Lucic's services would be interested in Shaw due to the cheaper option.
3rd and 5th are much better than the 2 2nds Habs gave up for him.
