To me it feels like there was competition driving the price up. Because viewing Sweeney's trades in recent years tells me he usually has a good gauge on players trade value.
Someone in that front office really likes the guy, and with the cap going up, maybe see Peeke's AAV & term as a positive.

(CBJ/BOS) - Peeke for Zboril, 2027 3rd (BOS)
Sweeney forgot Zboril wasn't on the roster and didn't need to dump him LOL.
On a serious note, it's a whatever trade. Yes BOS has a weakness on the right side in terms of depth in the future, so I could see why they were interested in the term Peeke has. I know the probability of that 3rd turning into an NHL player is extremely low, but still feel like they could've leveraged CBJ possibly trying to dump Peeke in the future like some reports indicate.
Definitely seems like BOS was targeting Peeke. We'll see how it works out.
Oh and don't forget about that whole fiasco at last years deadline involving Gavrikov. CBJ felt like they had a deal in place and BOS pulled out at the last moment. May have played a factor here, who knows. Fun to think about.

Don't see BOS moving their high tier prospects this deadline. It's a bridge year. The likes of Lysell, Lohrei and Beecher are not going to be moved. The only one I see being dangled is Merkulov.

I honestly don't think BOS is comfortable with moving their high prospects. To make the cap work a roster player would have to go the other way.

BOS should not be paying nearly as much as VAN did to get Lindholm. If they feel like they messed up acquiring him and now really want Guentzel, BOS can use that as leverage to drop the price.
Max they should be paying is a 1st + a mid prospect.

JD is more productive than Holloway right now, that's the cost if EDM wants to win now. Not to mention, it will likely be easy to re-sign JD on a hometown discount.

Should wait until the offseason to move Ullmark, plus that return is pretty underwhelming anyway. ANA is not moving Gudas.

Don't see a team biting on Forbort unless there is significant retention.
Also, Poitras is done for the year and Lohrei isn't ready to handle top pairing minutes/duties.

Selling and Buying
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>Why so low? I'm assuming it would cost a lot more for DeBrusk. I would do this in a heartbeat too, and like you said, it wouldn't be hard to sign him to an extention i don't think, because he is from Edmonton, gets to play with Draisaitl, and his father Loui DeBrusk is in Edmonton too!</div></div>
I wasn't too sure how much EDM fans value Holloway right now. Figured most would be hesitant on moving him considering his age and draft position. But I guess EDM fans are more willing to move him now for immediate production.
There's no doubt JD will produce a lot more consistently being on a line with McDavid or Drai. Maybe I am selling too low on JD.
Seems like a win win for both teams. EDM doesn't lose much and stays in a good position to make another trade for a Dman while bolstering their forward group to win now. BOS sells on a pending UFA they seem kind of hesitant on extending, and get younger on which was supposed to be a bridge year for BOS.

Could argue semantics about the prospect, but a 2nd + a decent prospect is about what Tanev was going to fetch. Sure should've gotten a mid round pick for the retention, but that condition isn't terrible.

I feel like that is terrible for BOS. PLD is a major red flag, and BOS isn't that desperate for a C.

BOS does need a jolt to their 4th line. Wondering if they signed him to call him up specifically for that reason. Would be surprising though as he doesn't have great foot speed.

You're not getting positive value for Forbort at this point unless BOS retains salary, which won't happen.

Kubalik could definitely be an option if BOS gets outbid for Duclair. That offer would be max I'm comfortable with for Duclair.
