Rental LHD
You have the right idea, but the value of the package isn't there. I'd say swap the picks or just get rid of NJ's pick in general.
I like Murray's game, but his ability to stay healthy is very concerning. I'd prefer someone else as a rental with Murray as a fallback option. It just makes me wonder if the Bruins were to make a long playoff run, how much can Murray handle all the high paced action hits and block shots?

Teams interested in Mattias Ekholm Part 1
I would absolutely love Ekholm on the Bruins. I have been a fan of his game for quite some years...that being said: I have made some posts in the past on why this team probably isn't bringing in a long term defenseman until after the Seattle Expansion draft. The fit itself makes complete sense, the circumstances is the tricky part. Bruins more than likely looking for a rental (UFA at the end of the year) compared to someone who's under contract for another season. Bruins had an EASY chance to acquire Nate Schmidt or Ryan Murray, and chose not to which leads me to believe that they have no plan of bringing in a long term dman.
Right now, I think the B's want to continue to evaluate their young dmen in Lauzon, Zboril, Clifton. and Vaakanainen. Just based on assumption, at the very least one of these guys won't be sticking around. It's just a matter of which one.
I think if Nashville can take on John Moore, then the Bruins would be in a position where they'd have to consider it.
Based on your poll, I believe Winnipeg will make the biggest push for Ekholm (and more than likely give the best deal). Bruins don't like going back to back without a first round pick, I believe WPG would have no issue dealing their first round pick this year. Philly makes a little sense (but not really), I don't see Washington pursuing another dman.

Can we talk about Gryz
Not too worried about Grz. It's just a clear, nagging injury he's battling right now. When healthy, he's one of the B's best dmen out there. I do think they should give Grz some time to heal up, I think last time they rushed him in when he wasn't 100%.
John Moore is going to be an easy target to bash, but at the end of the day it was his first game all season long. Boston played 13 games before Moore entered the lineup so I was extremely lenient evaluating Moore out there. We know what we have in John Moore. In reality, John Moore is a #6 dman for bottom feeder teams but he's a number 7-8 here in Boston. He is one of two veterans for this D core and brings intangibles.
Grz has had such of an unlucky start to the season but it's still very early and we can count on him returning. We will have a better understanding of what this team does at the deadline as the season progresses...right now, defense is one of the least of our worries. They have been playing very very good team defense. Not one of the dmen has really played awful.

Deadline Deal for LD1 and Forward Depth
I can safely say Galchenyuk won't be a target for Boston. I'd be shocked if he was. Doesn't fit the style this team wants
As for Murray, I'd be all for getting him but I can't see NJD letting him go. They'll want him to stick around

Deadline options
Based on these first 10 ish games, right now I wouldn't mind the Bruins acquiring either a veteran dman or a veteran bottom 6 forward. Based on my eyes, personally, I would love for them to acquire a veteran bottom 6 forward because I don't know how confident I'd feel if injuries pile on come playoff time and they're still inserting Anton Blidh in the lineup. Just perhaps a veteran, bottom 6 grinder with some scoring? I don't know it's early still, gonna take the next 15 ish games to get a better idea

Would make so much sense
Here's the problem with this:
1) Seattle expansion
Bruins would now lose a key player after acquiring a long term dman in Dunn. Bruins not going for a long term LHD in the offseason is greatly due to this draft
2) The young guys
Bruins made it clear they want to see what they have in this young D corpse. They've been great so far.. I'm not suggesting it will last the whole season because there's plenty of time for them to hit a wall. But I can't blame them seeing what they have in their system after going a few years without playing them.
Finally,
It's not that we don't want Dunn. I think he'd be awesome in this system. It's just this team really can't afford to make such a deal before the expansion draft. I think after, this is a move he'd make 10 times out of 10. A fellow Bruins fan mentioned above that the GM completely hates the idea of going back to back years without a first round pick when this future is already in question.
You're right though- This is a trade Sweeney SHOULD make, but he won't due to these circumstances. Who knows though, we may have these good defenseman in Lauzon, Zboril, Vaakanainen....there may be no need to address LHD in the offseason. But if Dunn still somehow manages to be available in the offseason, I bet Sweeney pulls the trigger. I don't think Dunn will be available by then though.

Lines with Pasta
I know Ritchie has struggled 5v5..but at the end of the day, Bruins are still managing to win games. I think part of the reason that second line isn't scoring 5v5 is due to Studnicka being unestablished. Studnicka isn't playing necessarily bad, but I do wonder how maybe someone like Kase can do with more time. Guy just can't stay healthy..
You might've saw my post from a day or two ago, but I recommended Debrusk to 3LW and Frederic to 4LW.
11-13-12 are killing it, but I think Debrusk on 3LW can wake him up a bit playing with Coyle and Smith. Debrusk on RW next o Marchand and Bergeron isn't working, I don' believe Debrusk can handle the off wing position. Frederic can continue playing his hard nosed style on the fourth line, I really thought that 4th line looked good with Frederic

How I want to experiment this lineup with Pasta back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>I think we'll see something like:
Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
Rithcie - Krejci - DeBrusk
Frederic - Coyle - Smith
Bjork - Kurlay - Wagner
I think Bruce really wants to get a look at this Frederic-Coyle-Smith line. They absolutely abused PHI last game. When those 3 were on the ice at 5v5 together:
Outshot PHI: 7-0
Outscored PHI: 2-0
Out chanced PHI: 5-0
^That was going up mostly against the Hayes line at 5v5.</div></div>
I don't hate this idea. Only thing is I'd really prefer if JD can move back to his left side. I know the Frederic-Coyle-Smith line looked killer, I'd still like to see more of it before I judge this future lineup. Frederic has looked god on the 4th line as well, so maybe Nick Ritchie to the third line LW? It's a tricky scenario

How I want to experiment this lineup with Pasta back
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>Not sure what you mean by "Anders Bjork is the odd man out and I don't think anyone should be surprised about that <strong>based on his play thus far</strong>"
Bjork hasn't been bad and you can't really do something when you go from line 3 to 1 to 4 in 4-5 games. Meanwhile, Kuraly hasn't been very good so far. But I saw your answer to the first comment.
Agreed for the lines and Cassidy probably goes with them until Kase returns. If Zboril keeps his level of play, I would move him up so 48-67-55 on the left side. Lauzon has been good but he can't play on the top pair for long term.
PP units are both really good based on the personal but unit 1 gets like 75% of the time so Ritchie and Grzelcyk's spots aren't guaranteed with all other options. I guess we roll with Ritchie as long as he's good.</div></div>
You can't be satisfied with Bjork nor Kuraly's play. Difference is Kuraly has paid his dues in this league, Bjork has had some flashes. This is all competition right now and when Pasta comes back, I can't see them scratching Studnicka in order to play Bjork. I do agree that Bjork has been bouncing around, but he hasn't looked particularly good in any line he was on. I think a scratch could wake him up a little.

I think if it reaches expectations, Debrusk on that third line can create one of the best 3rd lines in the league. Obviously this is assuming Nick Ritchie keeps up his effectiveness on that second line

But if im being honest, Kuraly has been their worst player in just about every game. Taking stupid penalties, bad turnovers yet Cassidy still puts him out in every situation he can put him in. He should take a seat for a game or two, seems like he has a couple screws loose. Bjork-Frederic-Wagner could be a really good line</div></div>
difference between Kuraly and Bjork is that the leash is longer on Kuraly.I just have more confidence with Frederic playing along Wagner and Kuraly than I do with Bjork. Bjork doesn't look like he fits all that great on the 4th line

I just want to say, PLD lowered his own value with his play last night. I am 100% behind Torts for that move. He always plays the players that wins him games, not those who are doggin it out there. Torts can care less about PLD and the whole trade request. The head coach is contracted to win hockey games.
Players get benched all the time, it's simply a wake up call. It's all about what PLD does from here

Review of BOS vs PHI 12121
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heyhowareya37</b></div><div>After Studnicka's goal, you can tell he settled down with the puck a little bit. Hopefully he takes that in stride. Ritchie has definitely come along, i think he will fit back into that 3LW eventually but he's played well and been rewarded. Craig smith may not show up on the score sheet every night, but man he works his tail off. Good to see him fire a puck on net pick a point on the coyle goal. B's still need to take opportunities to shoot the puck. Its early in the season, no training camp/preseason the passing is a touch out of sync. Lets take some shots and the passing will come along.
The Seattle situation is obviously looming, but lets enjoy it for now. There are plenty of variables that can happen between now and then.</div></div>
It's just looking more and more likely Boston will have to make a little deal with Seattle. But you're right, got plenty of time to worry about that

How good is this
Decent. First or second round exit team.
Positives
-Unreal first and second line center
- Poised vets in Weber and Ekholm
-Some good two-way bottom 6 players
Negatives
-Questionable LW core
- Goaltending is a little questionable
- 3rd pairing D would be a disaster

Game 1 vs NJD Player Evaluations
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heyhowareya37</b></div><div>That third pair looked really solid... Zboril was really poised with the puck. Seemed eager to get SOG and maybe forced a few, but he looked comfortable in his own end and transition. Kase obviously lacked finish, but his puck pursuit and forechecking was solid as well. biggest disappointment for me was studnicka, just got hit off of a lot of pucks, seemed to have trouble making plays through the neutral zone. Hopefully he bounces back Saturday</div></div>
Very well said! At least Kase is quite active for someone who can't seem to put the puck in the net. I'd rather have him be somewhat visible and snakebitten vs someone who's invisible and snakebitten. I also agree about Studnicka, unfortunately probably the least productive forward on the ice. Only game 1 though and still such a young kid, next game can do wonders

Yandle is awesome offensively, yes. However, he is absolutely atrocious defensively. He has to be sheltered 5v5 due to his liabilities with Florida. If we’re going out to get a defenseman, I’m waiting til the deadline (getting an expiring rental) and/or waiting til the offseason to get an even better dman that can probably fill the need of what this staff is looking for.
