Very thoughtful and rational write up!
I think you are lowballing every single big contract by at least 500k unfortunately. I don’t see this team signing an expensive ufa like nugent Hopkins without moving out more salary.

Would adding Pelletier move the needle? Seguin is better than monahan for sure but his cap hit is substantially higher as well which is why I made this trade 1 for 1

No chance Seattle takes gostisbehere. Philly will be leaving too many good forwards exposed.
Out of curiosity, which forwards do you see the flyers protecting?

Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DeadWingsv2</b></div><div>Not even close on the Mantha trade...</div></div>
I get that Mantha has been one of Detroit’s few bright spots in recent years but he’s never scored 30 goals or 50 points in a season and has not consistently shown improvement year over year. His performance this season (20 pts in 40 games) is perhaps just a down year on a bad team but he’s already 26 and his career trajectory doesn’t signal that he’s going to break out as an elite player.
He’ll be nearing ufa status and pushing 30 by the time Detroit is ready to contend, so Yzerman should be looking to move him while teams still perceive him as a young player with potential

That’s a fair point. I think you’re probably right. Namestnikov is a player I’d like to see the leafs add this year nonetheless - he won’t cost as much as some of the other names being thrown as trade options and he’s quite versatile. A trade that doesn’t involve a current player in the lineup would help resolve the 14 day quarantine issue you point out

Subban
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Devil1122</b></div><div>I agree that Trouba has the chance to bounce back, but the Devils shouldn't take that risk. The term really kills that contract. A couple years down the line when the Devils need to pay Hughes, Bratt, Blackwood, etc, Trouba's big contract may hurt the Devils</div></div>
I don’t really see any young guys on the devils breaking the bank as rfa’s (by that I mean rantanen/marner/matthews money) and New Jersey doesn’t have any long-term expensive veterans on their roster either. So I think the devils are actually in a very sound situation cap wise. The rangers on the other hand already have 18 million locked up in panarin and Kreider, zibanejad and buchnevich will get fat new extensions and they have another 4-5 great young players coming off ELCs in the next two years. Plus a ****load of dead money on the books.

Subban
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Book_Hockey</b></div><div>God no. Trouba contract is one of the worst in hockey and he’s signed for 6 more seasons. Subbans is done after next year.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FreeTacosAreBestTacos</b></div><div>Rangers decline. Subban's cooked, and Trouba is a Top 4 Dman, and will almost certainly be one for the duration of his contract. Realistically, Lundkvist is trade bait and Schneider is multiple years off from being a viable Top 4 option, and the Rangers have no one else in house to fill that slot.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Devil1122</b></div><div>Devils easily pass. Subban has less term than Trouba</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Subban is a better player on a better contract. NJD declines.</div></div>
Here’s my reasoning: Trouba has not played up to his contract whatsoever but he’s only 26 and has shown that he has the potential to be a top-20 dman in the nhl. It is undeniably a risky deal for New Jersey, but the devils have oodles of cap space for the next few years and zero depth on the right side after severson and maybe Reilly Walsh. A change of scenery might be exactly what trouba needs to find his game again, and if he can, the devils add a huge piece on the backend that a lot of other teams with great young forward pieces have spent years trying to find (hello Toronto).
From the rangers point of view, they have a plethora of stellar d prospects but are going to have some big cap problems in 2-3 years when all of their young guys become RFA’s. If trouba doesn’t improve by then, his contract will be unmoveable (especially with a full NMC so it will be better to cut their losses on trouba now while he still has value as a reclamation project than trying to do so down the road. Subban is a nice veteran stopgap on the second pair until Schneider and lundkvist are NHL ready
