I see so many Spurgeon rumors but I just don't see the Leafs moving picks and young assets for a 30 year old.

So many people want a quick fix but we have some decent RHD on the rise in the minors. I think only 1 trade is needed and it should be for a D around the age of 24-25ish.

Not sure a young core like this can affort to add another pending UFA no matter how good they are. Can only pay a handful of them

I would be more after someone around 25 even if you have to pay more. Hamilton would be my choice. Miller available also. Just not sure what Hamonic wants as an extension. If they have a better idea than we do maybe they make that deal, I dont know.

Considering Jacob Trouba is an unsigned RFA still, the Jets got a great deal. The Rangers must be pretty confident that a deal will get done though, otherwise there is no way this deal happens. You can't use Trouba's deal as a comp for either Spurgeon or Hamonic, since Trouba, in my opinion is a far better defender than either of those other guys and is younger as well. A lot of people around here seem to think that Spurgeon for Kadri is a fair deal, but I would disagree, not the least of which is that Spurgeon only has 1 more year left on his deal. What would an extension cost? Probably at least $5.5 to $6 million. As for Hamonic, I honestly believe a 2nd round draft, Bracco and Rosen should do it as far as a trade package.

Winnipeg was faced with a cap crunch and a player who expressed he only wanted to play in a US market. He is also an RFA and needs to be signed. The Jets are also facing a time crunch in what seems to be a rumor mill of Offer Sheet offseason. My guess is they wanted to get Trouba situation sorted and get Ehlers and Laine signed before July 1st.

In the grand scheme of things they got Pionik, their first back in which they'll draft a better player than Hayes and a 5th rounder the flyers gave them for Hayes rights for an RFA who would only sign to a US team.

Ehlers is already under contract.
They could have signed Trouba for 1 year and then dealt him for more before the start of next year

My take is stop hanging on picks

Top three lines are set for next 5 years - average 24y

Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Moore - Matthews - Nylander
Johnsson - C - Kapanen ( C could be Petan, lets see if packed with "one year wonder above average wings" they can show if they got it )

Farm is healthy

and D sucks.

With current rumours about Zaitsev, Marleau off the books, Kadri and picks should be used to build up the D, cause time is now. If 2021 1st round will be the first prospect to be drafted, he will need three years to make it into League, 2022 1st rounder two and so on. So ditch those 1sts, 2nds and 3rds till Draft 2022, use late picks to fill the holes in Marlies, if some Johnsson or even Zetterberg will derive from them even better.

17th GAA.....22nd SAA....and 25th SCA arent numbers that will bring another parade into town

For the OP

upgrading....my three at the moment are Spurgeon, Pesce and Manson ( honorable mentions Hamilton and Hamonic, as CGY would want Kadri )

Patching are Miller, Larsson.

You ve seen my last two threads, in first im patching, in second im going all in and overpaying to build THE D.

Trouba would have never signed and teams would have just low balled the Jets knowing Trouba wants out and their hands are tied with cap.

I like to use of late picks to fill the Marlies. Leafs draft well in Europe.

If we're going to move Kadri and a first I'm not going after RHD pushing 30. I'm targeting Carolina, Nashville, maybe the Ducks.

I would trade Kapanen and a Zuccarello (a 2021 third that elevates to a first) for Spurgeon. Minnesota really wants right-handed forwards. @TanSor @MNBassman

Not sure about Hamonic despite the fact that I'm in the Western Conference and theoretically see him 6 times per year. He has never made much of an impression on me.

Spurgeon is defenitelly the guy we want....as i mentioned....top 9 offence is 24y old, there will be nothing bad if D brings some maturity and prudence, so 30y old Spurgeon and re-signed Muzzin to bring some working ethnics to those youngsters sitting on millions now and stability when its 4:3 in last 2 minutes of the Game and opponent brings extra attacker in....

I missed you mentione NSH...defenitelly....completely forgot about Ellis, would kill to get the guy in....

I've kind of cooled off on the idea of Kapanen+ for Spurgeon. I like the player and all, I'd just want a more dynamic piece (or a high pick to draft one) as I think Kapanen is more of a really good complementary piece than the dynamic line-driver.

Just a question, would that be considered overpayment ( so yes ), just enough or meh :

Yeah, but there's that 2021 dangle and you can draft the #1RW with that 12th overall . . . of course, that pushes everything two years into the future .. . I see what you mean.

If you check my link, would MIN trade manage to reconsider ANA about Manson ?

Nothing really excites me other than the pick, so if I were GM I'd pass.

The only #1RW I see in this draft is Cole Caufield and I doubt he makes it to 12 unsure I'm not a big fan of Podkolzin, he's a left shot anyways so that doesn't really address our needs.

It's so tough to find a top 6 RW for this franchise without moving Dumba (which I REALLY don't want to do)...
