Brodin has to go

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 26, 2019
Published: Oct. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’ve grown to be a big Brodin fan the last year or two and I have argued not to trade him a few times already this season. However, I had an epiphany while bow hunting today... Brodin needs to be traded at the dead line this year, or in the offseason.
Why the change of heart, you ask?
Because... 1) Regardless of what they might wish they could do, the Wild will have a little over $13 1/2 million a year for the next 5 1/2 years allocated to 2 very old wingers resulting in a more complicated cap situation. 2) The emergence of Carson Soucy.
Add the two up and Brodin is suddenly expendable.
What team needs a LHD who skates like the wind, is a breakout machine, and a great positional defenseman???
Make me an offer. I require picks, or prospects 22 and under in exchange for Brodin’s services.

Penguins would really like him, but I'm not sure what they could give up cause he's not worth a first

He never asked for a first. That being said if you wont give up a first for him, you dont really want him. Plenty of teams would give up a first for Brodin or at least a decent prospect

Spurgeon's deal being signed was when I said Brodin was gone.

Olli Maatta, Brent Seabrook, unprotected first-round pick in 2020, and Brenden Perlini for Victor Rask, and Jonas Brodin and Greg Pateryn.

Brodin for Cole Caufield.

Never happen, but nice to think/dream about. Montreal seems a natural destination.

I've thought for a while that if Habs is close to a playoff spot near the deadline, Brodin for Suzuki trade would be quite ideal for both teams. Brodin instantly becomes the 1LHD of MTL, while Suzuki is exactly what MIN needs - namely a young center that plays from the right side. In order to make it work position wise, I think assets such as Kulak and Hartman could be included.

Habs offer

A 2020 2nd round pick (CHI or MTL),

Kulak (to exchange a contract and fill a roster spot for cheap),

And a B prospect playing center (Pick one: Olofsson, Teasdale, Evans. Or Ikonen if you can tip the balance your way)

Add Zucker in the deal and you receive Lekhonen and another 2nd, or maybe even a first IMO

Shoutout to @CLR

Would Brodin become 1LHD in Montreal? yes
Is Brodin a defenseman No 1 in the NHL? Absolutely not.

Suzuki isn't going anywhere.

Jets should trade for him
He is worth a first, but that doesnt mean theyll get one back. If they are in a rebuid then I imagine prospects that are 1-2 years away and still under their ELC's is that the Wild would want.

Brodin and Fiala

for

Tatar
Kulak
2nd in 2020
Conditional 2nd in 2021 that becomes a 1st if Tatar doesnt re-sign before draft.

Fiala fits our system which is the polar opposite of MIN top 6 system , Fiala could play 4th line here and still be a key PP piece over Weal or Cousins .

Brodin is just here short term our intention when acquiring him is to expose him in the expansion draft to Seattle to protect Juulsen and Chiarot .(Price loves Chiarot because no one has the balls to run him now )

MIN gets a top 6 player ready to play now to hopefully help their new GM steer MIN out of their tailspin .
Kulak to give MIN a body on LD for the year
Picks give MIN the the chance to re-stock a severely depleted depth pool
