Josh Anderson

Created by: Habs76
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 24, 2020
Published: Jun. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Eric Engels suggested a Domi for Anderson swap and while I think that's a ridiculous deal (since Domi is so much better), I do think adding Anderson to the Habs would be a solid move. Instead I decided on Anderson for a 2nd rounder, which seems much more realistic to me.

Contract signings are based on Evolving Wild's contract projections.

A 2nd is the bare minimum; if that's what you want, try signing Andy to an offer sheet, because that's your best bet of making it happen. By and large, we'd much rather hold on to him and see if he bounces back - 'cause before this past season, Andy was an excellent goal scoring power forward, and those aren't exactly commonplace.

Vancouver decline

Yeah I thought that might be pretty steep for Vancouver, I was mainly just trying to offload 2 players there wasn't room for so I just threw that trade out there, it doesn't have to be Vancouver making the trade nor do Drouin and Chiarot have to be traded together.

Yeah I wasn't sure what the appropriate return would be for Anderson. I think he's a real strong bounce back candidate so I wanted to do a "buy low" trade. I think it would make a lot of sense for CBJ to hold on to him and bounce back, I doubt that 1% shooting percentage holds up forever. Maybe I could've packaged Drouin with a pick instead.

Anderson, prior to this year, was a safe bet to score ~20 goals, something Drouin has done once in his career. He's also got the size advantage and is way better at driving play. The Habs also have a weakness on the RW that doesn't really exist on the LW, so subbing out Drouin for Anderson makes a lot of sense to me, the Habs would be getting a better player who fits a bigger positional need.

Trading Chiarot who was our best LHD by for, makes no senses. Drouin is a top6 forward and we need goal. He can run the PP and we know our PP is weak. Josh Anderson is a good target and YES, Eric Engels was probably high or drunk when he wrote that article lmao Domi for Anderson what an idiot

Adding Anderson does add goals though, more than the Habs would lose by trading Drouin. Anderson (prior to this year) was a safe bet for around 20 goals, something Drouin has accomplish once (on a stacked Tampa team no less). If Drouin was such a great PP quarterback, he certainly hasn't shown it with the Habs, maybe that skill is overrated.

As for Chiarot, I don't know what games you were watching, but he often looked more lost than anyone else in the defensive end most nights. Calling him our best LHD by far is quite a stretch.

Chiarot has been forced into a role that he was never given before and did quite well. He's not the ideal #1LD but still a decent second pairing option that can play first pair every now and then. He was definitely our best LD last year & a good locker room presence.

Anderson was a downright game changer in 2018-19.

27G, 230 SOG, 220 Hits regular season.

46 Hits, 23 SOG in 10 playoff games that year.

Last summer, the prices people were asking for Anderson on these boards and getting rejected were 2-3x as expensive as the “2nd + forward prospect” package this year. I’d love to see CGY be the team that takes the “gamble” on Anderson for that price.

Exactly, he's big, physical, and can score. His injured/unlucky year doesn't change that. Drouin is soft and doesn't score that much, and can't play defense. Doing any sort of Drouin/Anderson swap would be a huge win for the Habs.

Try actually watching the games before you come at me with these ridiculous takes. I can tell that you haven't actually watched Chiarot play if you think his play was GREAT. I watched every game he played and I can say with absolute certainty that he was anything but great this year.

Though I don't think he's a useless player and he could be effective in a 4/5 role, but unfortunately he was miscast as a 25 minute a night, top pairing defenseman.

Miscast doesn't have to equal bad.

Engle is not wrong. Look Jarmo is very bullish on Anderson. Anderson was injured this season and was playing on a bad shoulder. So of course his numbers were down. The price for Anderson is at bare minimum is a first and a b rank prospect or a Blue chip prospect and a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

I don't think Jarmo being bullish is misguided, which is why I think the Habs (or any team) would be smart to acquire him. I was hoping his off year, which seems to be due to an injury, would lower the asking price. I still don't think trading Domi for him makes much sense, but Anderson is a great player imo, and won't shoot 1% forever.

My two cents on Chairot: He was a depth defenseman in Winnipeg. Was thrust into the top pairing with Weber due to the fact that we just didn't have anybody else to put there. I thought at the beginning of the year he did have nights where he looked a little lost, he has said so himself. After he got use to the system we play and to his new team mates I thought in the second half of the season he was our best LD. Do I think that we should settle with him being our best LD, absolutely not, at best he is a solid #4/5 guy. That is why in many of my AGM teams I have tried to make a move to strengthen our LD now, not wait 3 to 4 years for are prospects to get there. But simply moving him out the door because he is of no use is not the correct path forward IMO. He will be a place holder until one of the young guys is ready or if we do make a trade to improve.

Do I think he's our 1LD savior? Obviously no. Is he a solid second pairing guy, totally and he's giving the team a solid 200 feet all around game. He was obviously looking out of place early in the season for about 10-15 games trying to figure out our scheme but once that was done I loved everything he did from his physicality to the offense.
Any day I'd take him on my second pairing.

I think the real issue here is that if CBJ moves him. He's probably going to a west coast team.
I don't think they trade a physical player like that to another team in the east.

It’s not an overvalue. First off, everyone seems to forget how effective he was in that Tampa series. He was physically dominant. He held most of Tampa’s best scorers at bay because he harrassed them so much. Secondly, the dude can score goals. Like I said, he was injured this year and was playing that way since the beginning of the season. Third, he can flat out skate for a big guy. Anderson can fly when he revs up. There is a reason he was so dangerous in OTs. The point is this guy is very capable of being a 60 point player. He is a better version of Tom Wilson, just not a douche bag like Tom is. Those guys don’t grow on trees. And you can count on one hand the players who have his speed, skating, goal scoring and physically dominant play. You can’t look at just this season and say he is worthless now.

Prior to this year he had 3 straight seasons where he scored above or close to a 20 goal pace, and this year he only shot 1%, which isn't sustainable at all. The reason I was hoping Montreal could acquire him is because he's a good goal scoring winger who adds some much needed scoring talent to a weak RW. Seems like a lot of people are underrating Anderson because they're just looking at his stat line from this season, which is in no way indicative of his ability as a player.
