Adding Scoring in the Bottom 6

Created by: Joshhaggstrom
Team: 2020-21 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 8, 2020
Published: Sep. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This to me seems like the best way for the Canucks to add both size and scoring to the bottom 6

Although William Lockwood is smaller player I felt that with the addition of a big Center like Jumbo Joe he would offer the protection for him to develop. Also having Lockwood develop in the same way that that Horvat did when he joined the team in 2015 is the best way to ensure that his development goes on the best track.

Trade #1
Not sure that this would even work but given the value going to Detroit and only asking for a 7th round pick coming back seems like it would allow them to shed the Eriksson contract.

Trade #2
Not sure many people will see this as good trade for Vancouver, but I felt Johnson had a rough time in Pittsburgh and just hasn't fit in the system that is being played.

Trade #3
This seems like just another maybe it works maybe it doesn't trade idea but either way sets the path for the team to add a more offensively minded 4th line center who can also play the PK.

Trade #4
I personally like this trade the Canucks send Roussel, Baeritschi, a prospect and a mid round pick for a player who has underperformed in the last year of his contract. Bonus for Vancouver is that Domi and Horvat have amazing chemistry from the time they played together with the London Knights.

The Markstrom signing is an AAV and term that has been discussed and rumored to have been the last offer that was submitted to his camp and allows them so still have control when the expansion draft comes.

As much as having Rathbone or even Hoglander in the roster full time would be nice im not sure how it would work given that holding on to contacts with year left would help when is comes to signing extensions to both Hughes and Pettersson

Overall this is all just my opinion but I welcome any changes that should be considered around the trades or even the signings.

Wings pass, gonna take a good prospect and a first to move that pick, at least one or the other

Even though they are only sending a 7th round pick back.

Not to even mention Virtanen is part of the deal

I’d pass for the Wings. If Demko isn’t involved there should be a 1st or equivalent prospect

That means nothing, we are taking your garbage contract, which means you have to pay more then a 3rd line forward who hasn't scored 20 goals in 5 years in the league. More like next year's 2nd and rathborne, or demko/dipietro

No idea why Vancouver would swap out Benn for an even worse player on a worse contract but cool. I'd take it.

FYI Johnson hasn't fit on any system in his career. He's always been bad. He just doesn't get PP time like he did early in his career and is slower now.

1. Who is our PK1 centermen? Joe Thornton? He's probably looking to stay in SJS anyway.
2. Quit trying to dump Eriksson's contract. We hold onto for 2020-21 and buy him out the following season. We'll save 2M in 2021-22. In 2022-23, his buyout will count 1M against the cap but we also have Beagle, Roussel and Luongo's contracts off the books. Don't go selling off the farm or picks to dump him. The Canucks can manage with him for one more year.
3. Why take on Jack Johnson? I'd rather have one of our younger guys take his spot. Benn can be our 7th Dman or traded for late draft pick.

that is way to much just to trade away cap, I get that Eriksson is not a goal scorer but Detroit is in a rebuild and they need to learn how to play better defense if they intend on developing their younger players. Loui does that for them.

Yeah, he’s 6M x 2 years for a 4th liner. Virtanen id wager isn’t Yzerman’s cup of tea as he doesn’t always hustle, plays poor defense, and has maturity issues. It seems he trades those guys away (DeAngelo, Drouin). If Demko isn’t included then a 1st should be.

Thornton has been rumored the past two weeks to be looking at other teams, as for why Jack Johnson he does two things, first Edler has one year left and he feels like a cheap option to replace him and give rathbone, who seems like the best fit to replace Edler, time to develop, sure keeping Benn would do the same but its all about planning more than 1 year at a time.

actually he's only 2.5x2 due to the way that the contract was put together. Virtanen plays like someone who because he's playing for his home town is owed ice time trading him to a new team would fix that attitude

Joe Thornton doesn't even kill penalties for the SJS...not even in the last three seasons! Why on Earth do you think the Canucks would put him on their number 1 PK unit? He's 41 years old! His body can only take so much more abuse.

I think Juolevi gets first crack before Rathbone based on his recent training camp and the fact management gave him playing time in the playoffs.

There is a reason why Jack Johnson has played for three different teams. He's third pairing for PIT, why take on his inflated salary...for 2 more seasons too??

1. You can’t have conditions based on re-signing.

No we aren't taking your cap dumps for free. It costs what I listed or you can keep his contract and we will continue our rebuild just fine. You want something from us it's going to cost you

Player gets ice time when they deserve it. If he thinks he is owed ice time with his lack of defensive play then that is an attitude issue and is going to happen with any competent coach. Like I said, this just confirms it from you that he’s definitely not going to be a Yzerman guy.

I’m not sure I know what your talking about with the 2.5Mx2 since Eriksson would still be owed 1M salary (if Bonus has already been paid) and then 4M in total compensation. He have no problem getting to the cap floor with our RFAs so you would be paying to dump 12M on us. It’s either Demko or a 1st as the base.

Would Vancouver give up Rathbone to move Eriksson? Take out Virtanen and put in Rathbone and maybe Vancouver doesn't have give up a pick at all.

Im gonna take the ericson deal. I think virtanen can play a little bit and he looks like he needs out of Vancouver. He's not perfect but his offense took a step forward and id like to stabilize the middle 6 a bit more.

ummm... What's with your FA signings, why are Domi, Tanev and Toffoli earning less than they did last year?

Domi signs in the $5M range....

This team is pure fiction.... also, Montreal says "LOLZ" and hangs up.
