I mean it's a 7th round pick and the Pens are retaining salary, can't buy much lower than that for a former 20 goal scorer and hometown guy.

Also opens up the door for moving Kunin if he's a deal breaker to get us a top line center.

But everyone on here that wasn’t a pens fan said the pens would have to pay to get rid of Bjugstad even with 50% retention lol. That’s why I think it’s awesome lol

And you can flip him for more if he has a good season

I never said that, not once. I just never thought he was a fit in Sullivan's system. Do I think he's more than a bottom 6 guy? No.

Minny kinda did the Pens a solid by taking cap and didn't even make them pay for it.

There's reportedly retained cap, albeit an unknown amount. Our beat writer just said "Pens retaining chunk of salary/cap"

Gotta look at this as a free agent signing with that conditional. A C Guerin is familiar with for 3 mil and I would love to know what the full conditions of the deal were.

I think it's because I actually posted a full roster looking at a realistic lineup and not just creating a team, making the trade, and posting. But you're the mod man, you tell us lmao

I don’t quite understand this for the pens

If it’s about cap space, his buyout was 600k next season, if the retained anything close to 50% that just would be a home run for the wild

If not healthy they don’t give up a a thing, if he’s healthy they get a decent player for a 7th,

Well it's better than a waiver claim and MN eating his full cap. If it's in the $2.5m range for a rental year of Bjustad (contract year) then it's a decent gamble. Maybe they can get a reasonable season out of the Bjugstad/Rask combo as bottom-6 centers? They can take turns on IR or something?

This makes me think Koivu isn't coming back for sure now. Not a bad thing, just sayin.

One big Plus is maybe all the Domi/Strome for Brodin/Dumba will stop now?

Already confirmed Koivu isn't coming back. Guerin reportedly informed him that this was the case in his exit meeting.

I hope so on the Brodin/Dumba for Domi/Strome stuff. Dylan intrigues me but not Ryan... And Dylan is concerning since he's an awful skater. This is major speculation on my part but the Flames are reportedly interested in Josh Anderson since they want a right shot wing with grit, maybe this opens the door to move Kunin or Hartman in a larger deal revolving around Dumba for Monahan or Lindholm?

It’s not 2.5 million retention. I know that for a fact lol

They had to retain a million and got a conditional 7th. "Awesome" is a stretch lmao

But the last few months everyone was saying how horrible Bjugstad was and pittsburgh would need to pay to get rid of him...

You can't buyout an injured player might have something to do with it? It also could be a little of PIT trying to do right by the player. Or that they don't want $1.75m in dead cap for the 21-22 season?

Also easy to forget that we don’t have to deal with a free agent search for a C. We’ve at least got the cost certainty if Guerin wants to eat some short term cap for assets or pull in a goalie in FA.

I mean the free agent market is pretty trash for centers this year. Haula is the headliner, and he's a 2C at best. I still see us trying to make an upgrade in the top 6 by using Dumba or Brodin, with the bottom 6 C's being Ek and Sturm, with Bjugstad playing wing. It's nice to have the flexibility and Bjugstad can take faceoffs on his strong side if necessary.
