Chicago is getting worse bad than they’re giving here, by kind of a lot. I still can’t believe ritchie got that contract, and I doubt any NHL would take him.

I did not listen to it... and they should have just gave him one... definitely a type of player they are missing..

not saying they wont figure it out but he would definitely help them right now.

Toronto should have gone out and gotten Saad, another player that would be playing a perfect role for them, especially one that is proven and experienced playing next to a top center and top winger.

This is right. Tatar was also right there on the market for multiple days. Both are maybe not quite as good as Hyman, but would have been shorter term and cheaper overall and they could have moved them probably at any time in the future if they needed to. Toronto doesn't need a dynamic incredible player to play with Matthews and Marner. They didn't need Zach Hyman, especially at that price point. They just need someone much better than Nick Ritchie.

Also worth noting that they did actually acquire a player like that when they traded for McCann- who would have been cheaper than all of these guys- but decided Justin Holl was more important to protect for...reasons

Lol. Ngl I was expecting another Marner for Jones trade with how both fan bases have been trashing those players recently.

Saad was on pace for 28 goals last year in a normal 82 game season and 30 the year before, 23 the year prior to that (as good if not better then Hyman historically). Saad is a consistent 20 to 30 goal scorer in the league, really good 2 way player and good defensively, tough on the boards, fast...very underrated...always produces on 200 feet of ice not just 100 feet. He is exactly the type of player Toronto should have went after. Very underrated because he's not a flashy puck handler or scorer...just hard nosed hockey player

Yeah Saad was definitely a player Dubas should have targeted over Ritchie. Dubas is smart enough to figure out how to make a guy like Saad fit.

Also bear in mind to the last few wingers who took fairly nice/under paid/bridge non-NMC deals with Toronto management, Johnsson and Kapanen were moved pretty quickly and for pretty weak value.

2.5mil in ritchie and 1.25 in Kase and 3.5mil in kerfoot and 1.645 in mikheyev is 4 average at best wingers, I'd have had hyman and mccann in a second over 3 of those 4, and gone cheap for a backup goalie to compensate. (With Mrazek at 3.8 on a multi year deal, you think Campbell won;t want more as hes the starter?)
