Its a matter of perspective but with the cap rn being where it is were not doing that. As Sandin is gonna be cheap for a while

That and I think Sandin can be just as good. Chychrun’s contract and reputation is the main reason why someone will overpay for hkn

I get that by doing that they can fill up their LTIR pool and thereby activate Eichel while avoiding most of his cap hit, but I don't get the specifics of how it works. Anyone?

They're going to try to trade an actual roster player with cap for Kesler, Kesler will then go on LTIR for Vegas, the cap space they gained from trading their roster player will help them bring Eichel back. It's basically what TBL did with Johnson for Seabrook, so Seabrook went on LTIR to give them space. The incentive for the team that's trading a Kesler or a Boychuck is that even though there's insurance I don't think they cover the entire contract so the team has to still pay these guys actual cash. This is good for richer teams to take on actual money LTIR guys for cap hit players. Also having players on LTIR doesn't allow teams to accrue cap space throughout the season for the trade deadline. That's why having Seabrook in tampa is tough cause they can't have any extra cap space for the TDL for for the next couple years, they have to use their actual capspace meaning they gotta hope someone gets injured till the playoffs if they want to bring someone

This season, Siegenthaler, Lindell, Heiskanen & Whitecloud stand out.

For forwards, Matthews, Bergeron, Tanev & Kämpf are at the top

Siegenthaler has been crazy good defensively this year, great chemistry with Severson and Subban/ He's been logging 25+ of ice time recently too

OK, if they're trading an active player to free up the cap space then that makes sense. It sounded like they specifically wanted the contracts of Kesler/Boychuk (which made me think that there must be some CBA rule that allows a player to come off LTIR without affecting the cap situation if there are a certain number of players on LTIR, not that that makes any sense)

If it's, say Sandin and 2 2nds, the leafs should do it. Sandin is quite unlikely to be just as good as Chychrun.

Offensively yes, but defensively Sandin has the advantage and if he continues on his current development man is he gonna be a solid top pair 2-way defender

Bryan Rust. Blink twice if you’re ok. What the heck did that guy eat. 3 multi goal game in a row. 🤷‍♂️

Agree with most of what you guys are saying. I see Sandin as more of a fringe #2 very solid #3 dman, although I don't think top pair guy is out of the question. Chychrun is tough to judge rn with the poor season he's having but if Sandin can be as good as Chychrun has been in the past I would be over the moon. To me it's more of a matter of whether it's a fit or not, I don't think it really is especially with Chychrun struggling I don't see the point of bringing him in, Muzzin has been struggling as well, but still. I think the assets required to get him would be better to be held onto as of rn, especially considering it's not an area of need.

I disagree. Sandin has been an elite play driver this season and the early returns show he can be just as good as Chychrun. People have been making excuses for Chychrun's play this season because he's on the coyotes, but Ghost has been playing very well. There's no guarantee he has a top pair impact this year if he gets traded.

I get it was a 5-on-3, but even so, if you're going to leave a player wide open, it probably shouldn't be Kirill Kaprizov

Agreed, playing on such a terrible team can be draining though and can really effect individuals motivation, could be what's happening with Chychrun. Ghostibhere got a lot of hate, was healthy scratched, etc. for a couple years before coming to Arizona. With the yotes he was given a fresh start and is probabaly thankful that he's in a spot that he can turn his career around again and is relishing the oppurtunity. I know that's alot of "what if's" and theoretical stuff which has no proof but at the same time, they are likely in two different head spaces. Saying this, you are right there is absolutely no guarantee Chychrun turns it around and it is a risk for a team to give up the assets required to get him.

That’s a good point - it’s still a huge risk to trade significant assets for Chychrun considering how bad his numbers have been this season , plus he’s injury prone. Being available is important. He’s being talked about like he’s some game changing cale makar type D, but he’s just a reliable top pair Two way D.

100% agree there, a huge risk for sure and most people seem to be valuing him a little higher then I do.

I feel like this is going to end up like the Duchene trade - someone will overpay and regret it.

I actually don’t think there is a worse team on the power play other than the Sharks.

Man it’s a joke. Like actually laughable.

I mean, you’re currently 22nd in PP% according to StatMuse, so you’re not the worst, at least in terms of stats.

Watch our last power play and you could find a Timbits power play shift that’s better.
