Edmonton blockbuster

Created by: Devs17
Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 30, 2021
Published: Dec. 30, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Edmonton wants to win the cup this year they need to finally go all in. They clear cap and get a rhd for a year plus and a starting net minder. Also bastian could be a great 4th line plug in the playoffs. Fourth liner with good defensive work rate and awareness goes a long way in the playoffs. 60% plus in the dot will be critical come postseason. And for Vancouver, Zacha can be a critical winger on any of the top 3 lines and is an RFA with control after the season and bastian will be the engine on the fourth line.

Honestly the value's pretty spot on in that Oilers deal, I just think it would be a horrendous idea for the Devils to trade Mack.

I dont think Broberg or Holloway is going anywhere. Edmonton needs a LD (they are set at RD) and more physical wingers both are the right player for the job.

I don't get this mindset. Do people really think Edmonton's window is closing next summer and they should go "all in"?

EDM needs good ELC contracts moving forward -- I don't see them trading their two most promising.

I don't think I would be able to stomach Bernier and Koskinen as our tandem. We would be creating a whole new problem without fixing any of our existing ones.

And pass on Podkolzin.

I read it more as they are ready for finishing touches, not that their window is closing.

They aren't though. And that's without touching the fact that they can't fit these guys under the cap next year. They NEED good players on ELC's in order to get over the top, this has Holland sending his players away.

BTW, Blackwood isn't putting any team over the top.

Well I mean there’s no point in them wasting a year and not committing. Also they probably won’t have the cap space to go all in as much as right now

Depends on what you are starting with. I don't think he would change Tampa Bay's future. Nor would he put Arizona in the playoffs. But he would make the Oilers a lot better.

He just isn't though. Over the past 2 seasons he has an identical save percentage to Mikko Koskinen (.901), while Smith and Skinner have far better numbers (.921 and .911, respectively). And before you start saying that the Oilers are a much better team, know that Edmonton allowed MORE shots, MORE scoring chances and MORE high danger corsi than New Jersey did over that timeframe. The reasons Edmonton holds a much better record are twofold: they have better offense and BETTER GOALTENDING.

The Devils have been a bottom-5 team over last two years.
They returned after a ten-month layoff.
When they returned, Corey Crawford retired just before the season, forcing him to play hurt.
He then contracted COVID and was out a few weeks.
He then had surgery on his foot, delaying his start to this season.
And the new backup, Bernier, had his own injury, again rushing Blackwood back.
Over this time period, he has played behind the youngest team in the NHL.
And the worst PK in the league.

We will be happy keeping Blackwood. And you all keep Skinner, Smith and Koskinen. Deal?

smith is 40, skinner’s started like 20 nhl games and isn’t a reliable #1 starter right now, and koskinen’s more expensive and his GSAx numbers are worse than blackwood’s. blackwood’s young, cheap and still has RFA years left. he’s not a surefire elite goaltender right now or anything but he’s a much better option in the short and long term than what you’ve got.

If Broberg and Holloway are on the table, the Oilers could do far better than Blackwood.

Declined.

Eh. You shed salary, gain a starting goalie, and get Severson for 2 million for a year and a half. Yeah ur losing two coveted prospects but they have to do something and Blackwood McLeod and Severson taking up the same space as koskinen is big. Broberg and Holloway ain’t helping u win a cup until a few years so wait of u want. Devils also take turris and koekoeks 2.5 million
