I do wonder if Colorado would say yes to this. They clearly win the trade but it does hurt their defence in a huge way.

No one in their right mind would ever say they would rather have anyone over McDavid. He's so much better than everyone else. Makar is great no question, but McDavid is the best.

I'd pass on the Sens trade.

You're asking a lot of Ottawa. Paul is likely worth a 3rd or maybe even a 2nd to the right team with money retained. Forsberg is a mid/late round pick. Sogaard is likely the goalie of the future and has done everything asked of him to prove he was worth the high 2nd that they used on him two years ago.

If Paul and the 2nd cancel out, Koskinen is a cap dump so the rest of the trade assumes that Barrie is more valuable than Sogaard and Forsberg. Genuinely I dont think Ottawa would do Sogaard for Barrie 1 for 1, let alone adding Forsberg and taking the Koskinen dump.

I agree, as long as the avs have mackinnon and rantanen they elite talent up front

There is no one else like makar, he’s the McDavid of dmen, breaking the mold what they can do with their skating

This is the one and only guy I'd think long and hard about trading Makar for. I freaking love Cale though. Great, great player. Great leader. Great dude. I can't imagine him anywhere else.

I don't think it would matter. What McDavid gives you is just nuts. Trade Rantanen for a great young defenceman. Whatever it took if indeed the addition of McDavid hurt your chances of success. I highly doubt it would. The AVS would score 7 goals a game all season.

You could fairly easily move a forward for a good enough replacement. No one can replicate McDavid. Man if him and MacKinnon were on the same line, it literally couldn't be stopped. They would score 5 goals a game.

move a fwd to get what is a generational Dman talent? If it was that easy then Oilers wouldnt be trading mcdavid to do it, I think you are under valuing Makar and truly unique of a talent he is. When is basically shadowing some of the stuff bobby Orr has done to start his career, you have a very special player

We'll keep Makar. We absolutely would win this trade, but having one of the best defensemen in the league who is only 22 is such a huge advantage (plus, he's at a reasonable cap hit for his skill). If we're talking giving up MacKinnon, then we would take that and run.

This is just a bias here dude. I am not an Oiler fan or an Avs fan, I have no stake in this. While I totally agree Makar is the best defenceman in the league. We're talking about the best player. Even if you are the best defenceman, you're still out of the top 5 best players. Maybe lower depending on how people feel.

We are talking about the best player period. And while I say MacKinnon is arguably the 2nd best player in hockey, he's not close to McDavid. With all that said, I don't know if Colorado would win a bidding war for McDavid.

its more you create a hole on your D core to add to what is already your strength in elite fwds with Mack Rants and Landy. Why would you just go and turn around and trade 1 of those guys for a Dman who would be lesser than Makar

Just doesnt make a lot of sense. You have the best Dman in the world right now in Makar and one of the Top 3 players in the world in MacKinnon, just the logic isnt there for me

If youre starting a team from scratch then yes, but COL is already scoring 4.25 goals per game. Theres diminishing returns when you have too many elite players playing the same position cause they cant all be deployed like they normally would. COL has 4 forwards scoring over 1.3P/GP already, they are set up front

I'm bias toward dmen but have long had Hedman in my top 5. Makar is on that level with the potential to pass him up, so he makes the cut for me too. Is he McDavid? No. But is he arguably a better franchise cornerstone when you factor in salary, etc.? Probably not but it isn't as far off in my book as probably most people.

Like I said I just don't see the AVS seriously being big enough into a McDavid trade. I think other teams would give up more to get him. If he demands a trade I bet he ends up in New York of TO.

Come on. McDavid is the best player in the world. He always gets picked first no matter what. Anyone who doesn't have him as their top pick is an Avs fan in this conversation.

You do realize that I said in my post that McDavid is the best player in the world, right? I just also said that I think dmen are undervalued and that Cale isn't as far off as others believe (imo).

He's way below McDavid.
