Koskinen is still a fine backup goalie, just let down by a terrible team system and even worse defensive system. Not to mention he is overplayed. He was never meant to be the starter for the oilers this year and you're seeing why. Koskinen for 2.25 mil for just this year in exchange for a 5th is a fair price for a team that needs to take the ease off of Hellebuyck as he won't survive the playoffs playing this much. He doesn't have to go to WPG but just to a team that needs a backup for the rest of the year to take the workload off of their starter.

I agree that Kassian should be paired with something of value for a team to take him but there's been ongoing talks since the summer that there is some interest in him and I beleive it. He's proven that he can be worth the money (I don't think he can olay at that level anymore) and some GMs will probably think he can improve their team. There will always be GMs out there that make dumb trades and if the oilers can get Kassian off of their hands without adding anything, it'll be a huge win.

MTL hang up
A good offer would be Toffoli vs Holloway
Toffoli vs Bourgault + 2nd RD pick
Toffoli vs 1st RD pick + Savoie
That’s it

That Buffalo trade is soooooo comical no chance there sending away a 2 for 2 cap dumps. Why does Ullmark waive his full NMC?

Buffalo will be thin on RD next year and I assume that they're transitioning out of the rebuild too hence acquiring Tuch and Krebs. Giving up a low 2nd round pick for a solid 40 point dman who can move the puck which in turn help out the forwards will be better for the team. I doubt that lower 2nd turns into anything for the Sabres anyway considering their past draft picks outside of the 1st round. Turris is a cap dump but he only has this year left and is only 1.65 mil. The trade makes sense for both sides and hopefully Barrie can be who was last year with the Sabres.

You're overvaluing Toffoli by a long shot. MTL would most likely be getting a 1st+ back for him but nothing more. In the trade you're getting essentially three 2nd round picks (Lavoie and Samorukov are most likely worth 2nd round picks). These values added would be worth a 1st+ making sense for MTL to take. They get 3 very solid pieces and two of them will be NHL players who have ceilings that can end up being far better than Toffoli. There is no way a team gives up a bigger package for Toffoli unretained following hand surgery. Nobody is gonna overpay MTL for him nor should they as MTL is the team that is trying to rebuild, nobody is gonna cut them slack and help them out.

Chairot by himself is getting a first this year, Toffoli is at a great cap hit and is a top 6 forward, he easily gets a 1st AND a good prospect. Think about what Tampa gave up for Coleman, a first and Nolan Foote. Holloway would definitely be the ask, not some middling prospects and a second.

Barrie is an albatross defensively and calling him a "top 4 defenseman" is comical he's a cap dump, and his advanced analytics bear this out clearly.

Toffolli is not a rental and he has one of the best value contracts in the league at the moment. They ask will every bit of a first ++

and if we are being honest, Montreal likely needs more than a "good offer" to trade him. Maybe its just PR, but he expressed interest in sticking around and mentoring the young players through a rebuild if that's what Montreal is doing. So unless there is an overpay, it makes no sense to trade him right now, could wait a year or two still.

Sorry, Toffoli is worth more than you think, and won't be traded for fair value anyway. IF you think 3x2nd is what he is worth, best we all just move along.

Rumours have Chiarot (rental) and Lehkonen (RFA) both fetching a 1st. Toffoli is worth far more than either.

Jets aren't a good trading partner for Koskinen so elsewhere it is for him. Even at 50% retained, Koskinen salary won't fit in Winnipeg's cap structure once Ehlers comes off of LTIR. Also, the Jets aren't a playoff team. There is always Arizona, which will take unwanted things for a second round pick. 😉

For that offer he doesnt get moved its that simple. Theres plenty of candidtes for the habs to move out, Toffoli is on a solid contract and wants to be there in a leadership role so really theres no reason to trade unless its a very good offer.

You overpaid for Ullmark and massively overpaid for Chychrun. Oof.

And the general valuation of Toffoli on this site is ridiculous. Over the last 3 seasons he hasn't been much better than Kassian. He comes with a higher cap hit too, yet he's apparently worth an arm, a leg and a couple of vital organs while Kassian is a cap dump? tears of joy

5v5 G/60, 2019-20 - 2021-22
Toffoli: 0.99
Kassian: 0.78

5v5 P/60, 2019-20 - 2021-22
Toffoli: 1.92
Kassian: 1.80

5v5 Primary Points/60, 2019-20 - 2021-22
Toffoli: 1.52
Kassian: 1.45

NST

This season Toffoli's scoring has dropped way off, he's scored just 1 goal at 5v5 in 29 games so far. So I think Habs fans should readjust their ask to something that reflects reality. Not that Edmonton would be very interested in Toffoli, but someone would be.

Winnipeg and all teams would pass on giving up anything for Koskinen no matter how much you retain. However, if you attach maybe a 2nd to him and retain the max you might be able to get back a 5th or probably lower pick for him.

They dont have to trade him, he was hurt for a good chunk of the year, the entire team has been garbage i'm not worried about a small sample size 29 games. I feel pretty confident in what we have in toffoli, a 20-30 goal scorer on a team friendly contract, theres no reason to move him unless its a solid package. Hes worth more to the habs than that offer.

The package being given up is worth a 1st+. If you combine both Samorukov and Lavoie they add up to a 1st round pick plus the second added on top, it seems very fair to me for MTL team who is trying to rebuild probably. They get Samorukov who is ready to take the step into the NHL next year and Lavoie who could very well be better than Toffoli in the coming years as well.

I never said he was a top 4 dman nor do I think that. But I do think NHL teams would value him especially those who are in need of RD. Barrie has been horrible this year but last year he was a fine dman providing good offsenive from the blueline. This year could definitely be an outlier season or it could be the start of a drop off but I'm sure there are teams out there that still want him. I think the trade makes perfect sense for Buffalo as they're trying to improve and giving up a late 2nd shouldn't really be doing them harm. I never said I valued Barrie that high but I'm just going off what an NHL GM would think if they traded for him.

You can't trust what these guys say to the media because nobody is gonna admit over interviews that they want out. I'm sure Toffoli would like to stay but the team isn't where he wants them to be making a good chance he wants to leave. A guy like him in his prime probably would want to go to a contender.

Chiarot is not worth a 1st but media has influenced him to be it (good for MTL bad for team that gets him). He's for sure more of a 2nd and a B level prospect in my opinion. Lehkonen is not recieving a 1st at all. I haven't heard a single report that he were to fetch that price, I've seen numerous mid round pick reports for him. Toffoli is worth a 1st and a B level prospect. The trade gives two guys who will most likely be NHL players and a 2nd. The trade makes perfect sense for a re-tooling as they get prospects who are close to NHL ready with high ceilings (potentially better than Toffoli) and a 2nd rounder.

Ullmark doen't have an NMC or maybe capfriendly didn't add it for him. If he does, the only reason I see him leaving Buffalo is if he plays the backup role for them and the oilers offer a starting role for him if he were to be traded there.

I don't think the Bruins let go of Ullmark for less. Maybe two 2nds but that's the equivalent to a 1st. He's still a solid starter in the league and has shown why the past couple of years.

Chychrun is an overpayment but that's what the ask is for. It's not too much of one in my opinion as the acquiring Chychrun would leave no space for Broberg and the forward prospect pool for the oilers is deep, so I don't mind giving up those guys. ARZ obviously wants picks too so you have to add those in. Teams will be in a bidding war for a top pairing dman on a team friendly deal with term.

Any per 60 stat I don't like to look at as it's very misleading (missing lots of context and prefer analytics and eye test). Toffoli is worth the 1st+ which some of the reasonable habs fans are asking for. I do worry about the hand surgery he just had but I trust he's still a solid top 6 forward with good playoff experience.

I just published 3 seasons combined data and your comeback is that it's a 29 game sample size? shakes head

Winnipeg and all teams would pass on giving up anything for Koskinen no matter how much you retain. However, if you attach maybe a 2nd to him and retain the max you might be able to get back a 5th or probably lower pick for him.

Koskinen's reputation has been ruined by media and the poor oilers defense which is sad to see. He's a backup goalie asked to be played as a starter on probably the worst defensive team in the league, that adds up for bad results. If you put him on an average defensive team and play him 25-30 games a year, he will do his job perfectly giving the team a chance to win every night. The team doesn't have to be WPG but maybe the Preds might be an option as they give up a 5th to rest Saros before the playoffs, probably something that is worth it if they plan to go deep. Plus Koskinen's contract is only for this year so not big deal with the cap hit either.
