I suspected this was exactly what Chicago had in mind when they acquired him (unless they thought they actually had a contending team going into this season), basically paying $6M cash (minus whatever Minnesota’s share is for the rest of the season) to turn Hakkarainen into a 1st or 2nd round draft pick and the joy of watching a hall of fame goalie play for them for ¾ of a season, so they get a win for completing execution of the plan. But with so many of the playoff teams apparently in need of goaltending help and the prices paid for other rentals, I’m surprised they weren’t able to get more. Of all the players that were available, I think he’s the one most likely to be a difference maker, so Minnesota gets a big win for that.
