I'd say $11,500,000 x 8 years, Maybe slightly less but doubtful he's going to get paid.

if he's not taking a discount? 12M x 8

8x whatever he wants

I think Sakic hands him a blank cheque and he decides what kind of discount he wants to take to keep the team as good as possible

If I’m MacKinnon, I want to get paid $15-16 mil (max is $16.3 mil or 20% of upper cap limit) for the next 8 years on that extension. Anything less is a slap in the face imo for how good he is.

Then you'll be surrounded by a very average at best team and never win anything. The cap is a thing.

They don’t make a lot of money for the physical toll they put on their body. All the more reason to win this year and then cash in.

$9.29 would be a steep discount; I don't see him taking less than $10 but I could see something like $11.029M just to be like Sid, LOL.

I'm thinking now at least $12,000,000 x 8 years if not closer to Connor McDavid money he's getting paid big time.

You think a guy like MacKinnon, who values winning, isn't going to care that, while he makes bank, the rest of the team can't get anywhere? Also, he isn't better than McDavid, who makes $12.5M so nobody is paying him that. It would be poor management to pay any one player out of 23 what amounts to 20% of your cap space and it would be silly of him to demand that.

No chance MacKinnon asks for max. He’s openingly commented that he wants to win and if it means pay cut, so be it.

If you want to talk slap in the face, imagine MacKinnon demanding 16mil while Makar and Rantanen make 9mil. MacKinnon isn’t a 70% better player than those two.

I’d rather the extra $30-45 mil than worry about what other people think.

Good luck with that. Whether he wants to admit it, he really wishes he signed a 2 or 3 year bridge. He was one of the last of the long term bridge deals. Its cost him millions of dollars. Had he done a 3 year deal he would already be making at least 11.

That's you and it completely ignores the way MacKinnon thinks and the realities of a cap environment. Even McDavid didn't ask to take up that much cap space and he's the best player on the planet. There is no chance Mac asks for that kind of money or anyone pays him that much.

McDavid money. Maybe a bit more. I think it has to be 12+ though.

Unless you’re MacKinnon you can’t say there’s no chance of it, but to each their own.

So your argument is that he's going to try to "make up" for that now by trying to max out? He must have thought it was a good deal at the time or he wouldn't have signed it; hindsight is 20/20, no? What's done is done and he wants to win; asking for a $16M contract isn't going to accomplish that.

Wondering if he goes 10.75-11 per season with the understanding their core is kept together for another 6 years. 8 year term obvs.

He's going to be the highest paid player on your team by a couple million without a doubt.

His agent will put a price on the table and then Sakic will negotiate but it's going to start higher than anyone else on the team

I guess there is an argument that getting max term at that age may lower the average a bit but it's going to start with an 11 without doubt
