Habs pass, at this stage of Zacha's career we will keep out 33-35 overall pick.

I think Toronto would be wise to consider this. It would give them 11 million immediately to give free agency and get a top tier goalie and a RD

That won’t get you Marner, sorry. Leafs are going to be looking for a bigger return than Eichel if he gets moved

Think it would be unwise for NJD to make that trade. Think the total value they are giving away is more than Marner.

that's picks #7 & 18 from last year's draft, two 20-year-old guys that have proven themselves to be NHL-ready. It frees up an extra $9M in cap space for a team that is trying to find ways to dump Justin Holl & Petr Mrazek to create some room otherwise. I'd honestly be worried on the Devils' side for this, because this has a real chance to be a trade where you watch some guys you drafted excel in Toronto for a decade. I'd only make this kinda deal if I was convinced that Marner was going to be the piece to put my team over the hump to being a clear cut contender.

Devils main need offensively is a goal scoring winger.

Trading away our best goal scoring winger prospect for another playmaker (already have Hughes, Bratt) is not a smart idea

Especially with the difference in contract between Holtz and Marner.

And the addition of Dawson Mercer who has looked great as a rookie

AHL success doesn't guarantee NHL success in Holtz. If it did, we'd have alot more stars at the NHL level. I don't doubt Holtz's talent, he's just not proven himself at the NHL level. Mercer has.

Devils pass, they win the trade value-wise but Marner isn't the kind of player they need.

Can't imagine Montreal would even be remotely interested in that trade. Not even sure why it seems to get suggested so much with Montreal's clear wish to clear cap space.

Yeah the Devils don't seem too interested in point per game or greater than ppg players. Especially ones who also kill penalties. Bad fit for the Devils for sure.

Another soft playmaker in the top 6, he's also probably barely a ppg player in NJ without Matthews to pass it to. We don't have a goal scorer half as good as AM34 on the roster.

If they're going to trade Holtz and Mercer for a winger making over 10M it should be for a guy that checks all their boxes and fills a massive need. Marner doesn't.
