Barrie is terrible, And this would put the Islanders slightly over the cap.

The objective reality is that Barrie has a positive GF% Rel in 8 of his past 9 seasons. Meaning he helps his team win games.

The objective reality is that he can’t penalty kill. Isles don’t need an offensive d man.

Look IK Scott Mayfield isn’t the most exciting name that could end up on the trade block by the deadline. But he’s dirt cheap even without retention, he’s played top four minutes with both Leddy and Toews. He played top four last year BEFORE Pulock was hurt and then played with Pelech while Pulock was hurt. The dude has flat out proven he can play top four minutes and win playoff games. He shouldn’t be worth less than what Manson or Chiarot got at the deadline. This deal just hurts the isles cap situation and it probably makes them significantly worse too.

When the oilers pk went to crap out of the blue last season Barrie was then put on it and helped it get back on course. Obviously that isn't what he gets paid to do nor is it part of his strength but he can and has done a solid job filling in when needed. When defending really matters like down the stretch and in the playoffs or spot duty on pk he's a very different player and much much more reliable in his own zone than anyone around here tends to credit him for.

Look I’m a big believer in the idea undersized defenders can provide value on the back end. But this is about the fact that Mayfield is cheaper and better than Barrie. Doesn’t make sense for the isles to do this.

I’ll be honest. I didn’t like him in the first, second or third round of the playoffs. But I wasn’t watching for him. I’m definitely going to try and see him play more. Because I agree that undersized puck movers sometimes get a bad rap for no real reason.

Don't think it's fitting for Edmonton either since doubting want to hand bouchard the top pp until improves 5-5 more but I just like to point out that Barrie isn't as bad of a defender as his reputation suggests on this site.

Regardless of who you think the better player is, it would be silly for the Isles to trade their RD3 making $1.45M for an RD3 making $4M the next two years . That cap should be reserved for making the team better elsewhere.

all the arguments about barrie on here are missing this crucial point. no reason to pay a RD3 4mil

The objective reality is that I didn't suggest this trade and am only responding to the silly narratives being spun in the first 3 comments.

The objective reality is that this thread is about a Tyson Barrie trade. This isn’t a Tyson Barrie fan club. If someone proposes a trade and you comment on one of the guys involved then you shouldn’t be shocked when someone points out why the deal is bad.
