It's definitely the trade here I wasn't as sure about. Ros could definitely fit into the 2C spot for Colorado though, and Girard would be great for the jackets but Girard has more value with that contract and just in general.

It's alittle pricey but gavrikov is a 2LD for a cap of 1.4m, who will give the leafs 23+minutes a night, plays a defensive minded game and isn't afraid to get dirty. He's exactly what the leafs could use now that muzzin is done and it is a sign and trade for the leafs to get that extra year (which also lowers his aav)
These types of players aren't available often.

Leafs aren't going to consider that. Take out Sandin and likely Simmonds. Simmonds can just be sent to the minors so he is not needed for cap purposes. A first and a third is a decent haul for Gavrikov. The third could likely be changed to a prospect.
Don't think Edmonton can afford Nyquist once Kane returns. If you are adding extra value for the cap dump in Janmark, don't. He can be buried at only a cost of 100K to the cap. They will need more cap going out for any cap to come in.
Colorado is not going to trade Girard for two bottom sixers and a second. Doesn't really help them right now. If they trade one of their defencemen I'm sure it would be part of a package to really improve the team.

Players that are around or under the cap burying limit of 1.125mil (or 1.15mil, I forget), aren't cap dumps. Simmonds is well under and thus can be buried without cost and Janmark costs the Oilers ~100k if buried- neither of which is worth paying an extra pick to move out.

Sandin is a solid 2nd pair LD who isn't afraid to get dirty and has a major upside. He alone is worth a lot more than Gavrikov who I am still waiting for anyone to show me and evidence that he's actually good. This is ridiculous

What extra year?, the guy is a UFA after this season, Sandin by itself as a 1.4 Mil LD Man with high upside excelling in a Top 4 Role is not being moved let alone Simmer who has 0 reason to be moved, Also retention matters very little here, This is a massive overpayment by the Leafs & the exact kind of deal Dubas would avoid

They mean the possible eighth year on a contract.

Sandin is not a 2LD especially for a team that wants to win a cup. He’s small and averages 16 minutes a game. That’s not someone you want to play top 4 minutes in the playoffs unless you want another first round exit

I hope for the sanity of CBJ fans that other NHL GMs value Gavrikov as highly as they do because these proposals are getting crazy. I've been to seven CBJ games this season and can confidently state Gavrikov is one of the issues with the defense. His stats don't stink because he's playing with boat anchors, his stats stink because he just isn't very good. Yes he eats a lot of minutes but when he's on the ice he doesn't clear guys out of the crease, he doesn't battle in the corners, he doesn't really do anything except skate around, and he's not a very good puck mover. He's a bottom pairing dman on most good teams but everyone is hanging on to the Gavvy from four years ago when he formed a pretty good shut-down pair with Savard. Since then he's played 2LD because Jarmo/Torts/Larsen just don't have anyone else to put there.

He might very well return a 1st rounder but if I'm shipping out 1st and 3rd round picks, a good young top4 dman, and 1 1/2 roster players I'm looking for a lot better return than Gavrikov. With how many teams are likely to be sellers at the TDL this year that shouldn't be hard to find.

Question: When you abruptly take a second-pairing guy - someone in that #3-4 range - and are forced to play him as your full-time #1 due to having four of your six starters on IR, what do you normally get to see?

Context matters. Folks come up with the same babble about Peeke because he's also one of the Sole Survivors Of The Apocalypse.

These are pretty big overpayments by the other team tbh. Idk why Toronto, Colorado or Edmonton would make these moves. Player fit might be right but the value of the players is off.

Couldn’t disagree more. If Ros were a 2C he wouldn’t have been shipped out of WPG, he’s an expensive 3C who doesn’t really drive play hence never having a positive season of xGD, or having a +50 5v5 CF. He’s a tease who has one career year over 40pts who’s career average is 5pts higher than Girard a dman. The amount of disrespect Girard gets on CF is hilarious, he is a top 4 dman on a cup champion top pairing a lot of teams, who eats 20+ minutes a game, is a puck mover locked up for half a decade on a team friendly deal. He’s better than Chychrun, and COL is under no circumstances giving him away which is exactly what this offer is.

His play didn't take a nosedive when Werenski got hurt. If anything he has actually looked slightly better since then. He didn't look good last year and he hasn't looked good this season no matter where he has been playing. You're holding on to the Gavrikov that looked great as a shutdown dman playing with Savard. Since Savard was traded Gavrikov just hasn't looked good.

Assuming Jarmo can't extend him what do you think is a fair value for Gavrikov at the TDL, keeping in mind there's likely to be a lot more sellers than usual this year? Maybe someone pays a 1st rounder but I personally think his value is closer to two 2nd rounders or a 2nd and a good prospect. It sure as heck isn't a 1st, a 3rd, a good young cost controlled top4 guy, and 1 1/2 roster players. If that was his value he wouldn't be signing anywhere for $4.75m.

Wait. Wait. Back up a moment. You're talking suddenly about last year, when your justification for "no, really, Gavrikov is bad" was seven games attended this year. Which is it, now?

And I think you're confusing correlations and which ones are causal by continuously referring to Savard.

I recognize I may not have been clear on my opinion of the AGM proposal itself, so let me be so now: it's absurd. The target for a Gavrikov sale is a mid-to-late 1st this year, or an equivalent prospect that meets skillset/positional needs not otherwise covered. All the extras being thrown in in this AGM's proposal are an overask - probably borne out of a misperception that it constitutes getting extra assets for taking on cap dumps that were not in fact considered "cap dumps" in the first place, let alone ones that the Leafs were wanting to spend to get rid of.
