Boeser

Created by: LIRIK
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 5, 2022
Published: Dec. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
VAN save 3.25M for the next 3 seasons. MTL can afford that, and Boeser could be flipped in 2025.

Can MTL get more value from another team using that 3.25M cap space for the next 3 years?

Boeser isn’t being traded for a cap dump man

According to Canucks insiders, Boeser is considered a cap dump amongst the league. Armia is a bigger cap dump, but Vancouver would save 3.25M for 3 years

I think he just needs a change of scenery. Would still get a positive return

So Boeser @ $6.6M is a cap dump with 15pts in 19 games and Monahan @ $6.3M with 16pts in 24 games is worth a 1st? Interesting logic.

Have you taken into account Monahan plays in Montreal? That obviously makes his value way higher. All their players are worth 1st round picks!

Throw a link to back this up, then.

I can imagine the Canucks being disappointed with Boeser, sure, but the fact remains he's always been an offensive minded forward and he's put up 15 pts in 19 GP this season. That's actually 1 more point than Joel Armia put up in 60 GP - and 14 more points than Armia has scored so far this season. Get out of here with thinking there's any universe where this is a straight one for one swap.

A Montreal trade that didn't include Josh Anderson and 3 1st round picks coming back? I'm shocked. Also, Vancouver hangs up

Also, the fact that VAN allowed him to speak with every teams probably means they couldn't find any trade partner themselves. Boeser will have to convince GMs.

Armia for Boeser would give Vancouver 3.25M cap space for the next 3 years. That's their win.

Saying "he's difficult to move because of his cap" in the middle of the season is the same thing you can say about any top-6 pending UFA with a cap hit over $5M.

Vancouver would be better off trading Boeser for FCs than taking back a pylon like Joel Armia. They're currently cap compliant, so there's no need to save cap mid-season, and I'm sure if they put Boeser on the trade block with a 2x$6.65M cap hit this summer some team will offer up value for him.

Using your logic, the Islanders could offer Ross Johnston straight up for Brock Boeser and it would beat this deal because it will save them $5.55M over the next 3 years. Do you really think Vancouver would make that trade?

There is no world where the Canucks take this offer. If a forward gets moved, they will be looking for a top 4 RHD, 2023 1st, or other futures in return. Boeser definitely doesn't have the value to return a top 4 RHD right now, and quite possibly wouldn't return a 1st either. Best course of action is to just move forward with Boeser, especially if these are the kind of offers out there.

They would do it to save more cap space. Armia is a bigger cap dump than Johnston. Would NYI spend 6.65M over 3 years for a 5v5 disaster 2nd PP slow RW?

Boeser have 0 value just like Bjorkstrand or even Pacioretty last summer. I'm even considering Anderson to be in the same situation.

Moving cap space is becoming really hard in that league with the cap barely increasing last summer and probably next year too.
