Swayman you guessed it Read Description

Created by: Jake_Defranchise
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 31, 2022
Published: Jan. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Swayman has a lot of similarities with 2010-11 Rask, struggling after an amazing year prior, struggling to pull together wins given the other guys' insanely hot streak. He also has numbers similar to Otter before he put it together, I do not believe the bruins should trade Swayman but if they do here are some options

NOTE: trades are assuming that teams see Swayman as a future elite/starting caliber goalie (only way boston moves him is if that is the return)

                Goalies are voodoos
No one are paying price assets for a goaltender
The last big goaltender trade is Schneider to NJ vs 9th OA (Bo Horvat). I think that’s the last big goalie trade. That turned out disastrous

Sir… just because he’s not having a career year like Ullmark doesn’t mean he’s doing bad lol. It’s his second full year, and he’s 10-3-3

I would keep Swayman. Why trade him?

You know what, I'd argue that the Schneider-Horvat trade wasn't *that* bad. Schneider's first 3 years in Jersey were nuts (.924 SV%, 2.14 GAA), the big problem was that they never had any sort of offense. Those three years the Devils finished 27th, 28th, and 30th out of 30 in goals scored. In his entire 7 year run there, they only ever finished in the top half of the league in scoring -once-. He did what he could, and while Horvat might've made life a little easier for whatever goalie he would've skated in front of, he's just one guy - in his whole time in Vancouver, the team's only had two top-10 finishes in scoring.

Hawks pass. We have Soderblom and Commesso who look good and the last pick in the first round plus a dump is not getting Kane.

Trading because it's fun doesn't make it necessary...

This is a Canucks kinda shift/surgery, not BOS - do not fix that to which has yet to break!

None of these make any sense. Least of all the vancouver trade which is ridiculously bad for boston.

I doubt Boston would trade the 3rd/Smith for Kane. You can forget Swayman.

The Arizona trade is the only one that does not suck hard for Boston. It sucks, just not hard.

I think with swayman it's more can they afford to pay another goalie. He's been good he's going to command a little cash.

I doubt Boston would trade the 3rd/Smith for Kane. You can forget Swayman.

Imagine you could dump Craig Smith and add Patrick Kane just for the price of a third rounder… this is a ridiculous statement.

Kane is a name only. He’s having a terrible season. Plays zero defense. No physical play at all. The exact opposite of what they need. Playing through an injury. If they are going to trade for someone that only offers offense it’s not someone shooting 5%.

So many better options that don’t carry that cap hit and cost much less. If they are going to target a one dimensional player, factoring in production/cap hit/acquisition cost, his own teammate Domi would be much better value. Someone like Zach Parise would be better value than both.

But that is not the type they should be targeting anyway.

Now add there won’t be a bidding war as his trade protection severely limits their options.

Throw in Boston’s limited cap space, meaning if they did that he’d be the only move they could make, and it’s the wrong one, it makes zero sense.

Realistically 2nd/Smith/mid level prospect is probably close to actual value. But personally, would not touch him at all. I prefer actual value over name brand recognition.

You are making this bigger than it is. I agree that Boston doesn’t need Kane. You also act like salary retention isn’t a thing.

All I’m saying is your original statement that you wouldn’t touch Kane for a cap dump and a 3rd rounder is ridiculous. And you agree with the final sentences of this unnecessarily long reply.

Edit: and Chicago would decline what you offered. If Nick Foligno gets a first at the deadline, so will Patrick Kane. But it doesn’t matter in this scenario because Boston shouldn’t be targeting Kane.

Boston has 33k of cap space. Salary retention does not really matter. Even at 50% retention and moving Smith out. It’s still a problem.

Under the circumstances, for this team, Kane is bad value at any cost.

So yes, they should not even consider 3rd/Smith. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Doesn't matter but they would be crazy not to. Not going to even entertain why you think otherwise as every playoff team would take him for basically free. Kane has some of the best playoff numbers of any player in the league today. Yes, he has a hip impingement that he's been dealing with for a couple of years, and yes his numbers are down on a terrible team in which he is disengaged on the ice, but doesn't change the fact every playoff team would want him if cap hits weren't an issue.

They would be crazy to for all the reasons i stated above.

You can fanboy all you want, i expect it and understand it. No worries. But If you are on the other side of it applying logic as opposed to fandom you see it completely differently. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nothing to do with a fanboy, it's an objective viewpoint. Every professional beat writer and scout will disagree with you as well and if you keep up on the top analysts and those that have interviewed the pro scouts you'd see that clearly.

                Lol.

Completely ignoring the fact that he’s a terrible fit for the team in question and aquiring him would prohibit them from doing anything else, like getting the two pieces they could use. But ok. 🙄

For someone else…sure. For Boston…no. Not that hard to understand.

Boston would do a 3rd and Smith for 50% retained on Kane all day long period even if only to play on the 3rd line as an upgrade to Smith...any playoff team would add Kane for that cost of a 3rd and Smith point blank. You're crazy to think otherwise.

Not even worth entertaining this discussion as the hawks would easily keep Kane until the offseason if that's the price anyway.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Hawks pass. We have Soderblom and Commesso who look good and the last pick in the first round plus a dump is not getting Kane.

Kane goes to which ever team he wants to win a cup with, and for a Taylor Hall level trade. 2nd and a middling bottom 6 forward (Craig Smith).

I don’t disagree that they probably need an upgrade for Grzelyck for the run over RW. I also wonder if nothing is possible on the D front, then a Kane add is likely a good move. It’s probably the most attractive deal for Kane. 3rd RW instead of having the play big minutes. He also can be a backup plan for the Bs if Pasta doesn’t re-sign (not ideal but how high is Sweeney in Lysell?)

Regardless, a 3rd and Smith is not out of the question. Little low, but if Kane only wants to go to Boston, they don’t have much chOice do they?

Swayman does not go in that deal.

Let’s say they do get Kane and use a 3rd party in the deal for a 5th/6th, then they may actually be able to make another deal.

While I don’t do this if I’m the Bruins, Swayman,, Grzyck, Lysell, and a 1st could be close to get Chychrun, and there’s still Reilly to dump with a sweetener to another team or keep as insurance.
