Seider has the 1RD spot sewn up so bringing in a $9.5M 2RD doesn't make much sense. Detroit would be more likely to use those assets to trade up for Fantilli than to trade in Jones.

If Columbus has the second overall pick, they take Fantilli themselves. Zero chance Jarmo trades down unless Columbus ends up out of the top three.

CBJ has been desperately searching for a 1C for their entire 22 year existence. They aren’t about to pass up on one now if they finally get some lottery luck and land a top-2 pick. You would have to move heaven and earth to pry that pick away from Jarmo. For that pick to be traded it would have to absolutely wreck your franchise.

DET isn't trading for Jones, agree with you guys on that one. But just to be clear Jones has been one of the better defenders in the NHL this year (more impressive on this terrible roster) and is absolutley not a cap dump, and the hawks don't need to "dump" his money. He's maybe a million overpaid but still absolutely a top pair D.

FWIW, I'm not saying he's a cap dump, but he IS overpaid and that contract IS a negative. Just like Erik Karlsson, who is likely going to win the Norris this season, a guy can be a good to great player and and still have a bad contract...

It's just wishful thinking. Jarmo has been devastating the Blackhawks for years now and their fans just want the bad man out of the NHL.

I would say that the Hawks are the 'bad men' and they should be out of the NHL. Somehow Bettman has given them a pass bigger than his pet team in Arizona.

Those stats are heavily effected by the first few months of the season. If you isolate how he has played since the new year, and even more so since the all star break, he is playing much better than that player card would have you believe. He has been playing like a bonafide number one defenseman. Whether he can continue that trend into next season and beyond, only time will tell.

Sure. Not trying to sell him to you. Unless his on ice performance becomes consistently elite and he asks for a trade, he will be in CHI for the duration of his contract. I have liked him more than I thought I would. Just saying there is a lot of hate floating around about Jones that isn't warranted. It isn't his fault Stan Bowman is a moron and gave up way too much to acquire him and then overpaid him. But, also, within a few years, a $9.5M contract will be pretty commonplace.

In any case, no GM no matter who he is of the Columbus Blue Jackets--a team which as you as an expert know has never had a 1c in its entire 222 year history--is going to trade down from a top two pick in the 2023 NHL entry draft.
