Goalie Overlode

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 10, 2023

Description
Okay I should explain because I already know people will get angry at some of these valuations - but I am 100% serious about everything here.

Firstly; Goalies rarely return much. Every time a goalie gets moved it always shocks people for how little it ends up being and they never learn. A 1st plus an NHL ready goalie prospect (check the stats) is reasonable enough to be competitive with other suitors.

Secondly; Tanev is a rental. If you think he is bringing in some dragon haul you're likely to be disappointed. Liljegren is insane value for what your giving up, which is why you're taking Murray's contract (worth a 3rd from TOR or so) and sending us an underutilised forward. Frankly I think you'd come out on top of this trade and think CGY would be adding a relatively high pick but I just know how CF loves to devalue Leafs.
Anyway Andersson-Liljegren as a 1-2 RD would be insane for the next 5-10 years

Why do I want 2 goalies? IDK why not. Its just a random idea to see if we can get 2 young guys and 'rehab' Hart a bit from that mess in Philly.
Moving Lily only makes sense if Keefe is going to do the old coach thing of not trusting the kids to play 2nd pair mins. Thats pretty much the reason

If you don't read the desc and comment something already answered by it I reserve the right to make fun of you

Flames pass. Personally i view Liljegren and Ruzicka as pretty close to a wash. Even if bot the difference between Tanev's contract and Murray's drastically swings this in Toronto's favor.

What part is bad? If you disagreed with me so much you wouldn't have Ruzicka in your top 6 over Robertson, ROR or Knies. Regardless of Sutter's lineup decisions the fact remains that when given the chance Ruzicka still put up 20 points in less than 30 games in the top 6.

As for the other part. Matt Murray is 1) overpaid, 2) injury, prone, 3) blocking Dustin Wolf even more, and 4) close to if not negative value unlike Tanev

Don't see the leafs trading Woll under contract for 2 years and making 1/3 of what Hart makes. Woll has played great so far and besides a injury setback early in his career has been a very good goal. He probably is the best goalie in the AHL at this time.

Some wild ideas of trading Liljergen and Woll.

I can't lie, I like those two.
I gotta ask, why are interested in moving them?

How goes it? It's been a while... How's @onex been?

My thoughts exactly, however, he did answer why he's moving Lilly in this instance (this would be based on Keefe not trusting him in the playoffs).

There was a time when I would have been willing to give up Marner for Heart but now his value is at an all time low and in this instance we are giving up too much for him. I also, wouldn't bring him to Toronto at this point because I don't think he'd be able to handle the pressure if/when things go bad.

Same, always enjoy taking with you and @Trickster and his ACGM'S. Kinda stopped coming on here because it's not worth trying to rationalize with unrational ppl who undervalue leafs players because of the team and fanbase they represent.

Same here but less so than in recent years because if we can't make it out of the 1st round again change is needed.

What's with everyone trading Matthew's? Last I heard him talk about signing here before the season started he said he couldn't sign at the time and he liked being a leaf. Did I miss something or is this because of the Tkachuk situation?

I'm more nervous about the Blue Jay's pitching than the leafs in the playoffs lol

The Matthews trades are mostly people of other fan bases hate posting ACGM's to make the Leafs worse in future years.

I'm not claiming AM34 stays or goes but I'm also realistic about where he may go if he chooses to leave Toronto. Arizona is the last place he's heading to in terms of places to play. It's a joke of an organization playing their team out a 5K seat arena, enough said.

AM34 enjoys being in the spotlight and if someone says he's headed to NYR or LA to play for either of those teams, I don't have a response to that other than good luck Auston.

Thanks I'll check it out.

That's what I figured but didn't know if I missed something. I figured it's probably because Tkachuk wanted out of Calgary and wanted to go to the states but the 2 aren't mutually exclusive.

Same here but personally I think he stays. I've heard some claiming he wants to play in the spotlight as well, but last time I checked Toronto, Montreal & New York are the 3 biggest markets in the league. Also, I don't buy into taxes being an issue as its essentially balanced out by the exchange rate vs cost of living. These players have ways around paying as much taxes as most think especially if they get paid in signing bonuses.

Couldn't agree more, there's less than zero % chance he goes to zona. The OHL'S Hamilton bulldogs literally draw bigger crowds. But L.A. isn't a big market Doughty has publicly spoken about ut in TSN and Sportsnet. @oldNYIfan can speak on this better but I have to assume LA is a Lakers town first and foremost then the Dodgers then the rams/chargers then either the kings, clippers or Galaxy not sure of the order but I'd think the clippers would be the bigger draw.

If he infact won't sign though I can't see him making it to FA. Personally I can't wait until he signs in the offseason so we can put this to rest.
