Dubas was not the issue, but it may be easier for someone else to come in and execute the retool.

Definitely think this means at least one of the core 4 is out.

Matthews is the least likely but would probably benefit the team the most.

This all hinges on Matthews, who was incredibly close to Dubas.

From what I heard yesterday by Friedman we know there was an offer but Dubas was still undecided (contract my guess was offered Monday)

Friedman left it with a dark question how long MLSE gonna wait for him to make a decision

We now know it was today lul

Anyways either promote Pridham, or bring in one of Treliving or Tulsky

Was there some changes that needed to be addressed with the roster construction, sure. But your taking about a team that just went back to back 50 win seasons.

And ran into just an incredible hot goalie

Huge retool 🤔

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result, it’s clear, Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Rielly won’t do it, so a retool is the logical step

One standout quote from Kyle Dubas presser:

"The one thing I would say about this spring, as I sit here, and obviously there is a lot that will need to be cleared in the coming stretch… In terms of the goal, it remains the same, but perhaps the path needs to shift slightly. It needs to be adapted slightly.

You get in between persistence and full belief versus being a little too staunch and rigid. I think that is a question I would take the time for myself in reflecting on the year and then decide on that heading into the spring toward the draft and free agency."

Edit:

What new GM is going to come in and want to trade a top player before he gets his new coach in place? If a change to the core was going to happen, it was going to come from Kyle, which hearing him talk was certainly on the table. Unless they promote from within, hard to see any massive changes to this roster next season

Sounds like they won't go for another first timer. They'll take in some more experienced guy.

I can almost hear it now.

Welcome to Toronto, Peter Chiarelli.

Eric Tuslsky is already the GM of the Canes even if its not in name

The Athletic’s Rob Rossi sums up his job in Raleigh as such: “Tulsky is essentially already the GM in Carolina, where he focuses on hockey operations while GM Don Waddell tends to a lot of business matters.” Waddell holds two titles and is 62, so Carolina might be willing to shell out big bucks (or convert him from AGM to GM) in order to keep him.

So yea hes probe the top candidate

Nahh definitely it's Chiarelli.

Next in line, Chuck Fletcher, followed by Dave Nonis and surprise candidate Mike Milbury.

If anything Chirelli probs going to Dallas as their GM's deals done this summer should be fun as they gonna replace Nill with his lost twin

Nah Nill has built a proper cup contender he'll be re-signed for couple more years.

I’m sorry what?

He is a top5 gm in the league

He built a flawed roster and killed the team by overpaying the young players who were undeserving and then signed JT and named him Captain. Literally near perfect at everything else.

Kyle Dubas will get a much needed vacay then wildly improve some less fortunate than the Leaves team’s hockey ops department and the MLSE board can make the massive critical decisions needed in the coming months, but have a new fall guy if it doesn’t work.

On paper the roster was stacked. Also, he only handed out big contracts to the core players. I can't remember many players he overpaid.
