Or LA could just wait until Matthews is a UFA and keep the assets.

Outside of Clarke it's a very underwhelming package for Auston Matthews. The 2 1st are at least in the early 20's Vilardi isn't anything special in losing Matthews plus Durzi. Yeah that offer doesn't get Matthews.

unless Matthews comes with an extension its one year of matthews. Not sure any team would be interested in paying more than that for one season.

A 20-man roster is utterly unrealistic as well as unmanageable. We'll just wait until 2024 and see what Matthews wants and what roster adjustments have to be made in order to accommodate him.

{ . . . } Vilardi isn't anything special { . . . }

2/3 of a point per game was better than anyone on the Red Wings except Larkin and Perron. Which isn't to say that he's BETTER than Lucas Raymond, but only that your view that Vilardi "isn't anything special" is, to be charitable, idiosyncratic.

Now, I really don't think Matthews will resign with Leafs. But no reason Cup contending Leafs would be sellers either. Contending teams actually spend assets to acquire good players near the deadline.
This roster is hardly cap compliant either. If Matthews/Nylander/Brodie are traded it is near the TDL where their cap isn't so onerous

LA would be WAY better off waiting until Matthews is UFA (Kopitar is gone) and keeping all of those assets instead.

Kings say no to all 3 of those deals. 1 year of Matthews for Clarke, Vilardi, Durzi, and 2 firsts is a massive overpay. Plus this roster is still stuck with its current problem, Cal Petersen.

This team is so much worse than it was this year, all for adding a goal scorer at center (where the Kings have a small logjam anyways) who is still 1-10 in closeout games in the first round.

And they very well might. However, Kopitar is 36 this summer, Doughty turns 34 later in the year while Danault and Arvidsson are 30. They're burning daylight.

lol

They'll wait for him to be a UFA.
It will tough enough to sign him when he'll be looking for the max AAV much less trade assets unless they are the assets LAK cant afford.
Dont give me any of this ludicrous discount talk. The hard cap already makes the 20% max AAV, the discount!

I'd take Vilardi in a second. Especially on a goal starved Red Wings team which lost Bertuzzi and Vrana. And Hronek for that matter.

This is great trade for EDM. There’s a good chance Yamo gets traded this offseason and Arvidsson would be a considerable top 6 upgrade at around the same cap hit. Oilers also land a very good prospect. There’s no way LA does this.

Wait - Turcotte is a "very good prospect"? Is this 2019?

A 1st for an Arvidsson rental is pretty steep, especially considering Edmonton would have to move out significant players to accommodate. IF they trade Yamamoto this summer it would be strictly to clear cap to sign Bouchard - no way can they replace Yamamoto with a more expensive player. If LA was to retain 50% on Arvidsson there's a conversation to be had, but surely LA could do better elsewhere.

Gonna have to disagree. The point is that the Oilers literally can't afford to incur further cap costs as they already likely have to move on from two of Yamo, Foegele, Ceci, and Kulak. Adding Arvidsson would mean worsening the cap crunch and having to get rid of three of those players. For a guy that's likely only a bit of a step up at a position they shouldn't really be focused on upgrading (plenty of W prospects on the way up), that's not even remotely worth it.

As for Turcotte, nothing about his numbers suggest he's a 'top prospect' anymore given they've been largely stagnant for 3 years in the AHL.

I disagree, Turcotte is only 22 and hasn’t been given much of an opportunity in the NHL yet to say otherwise.

Arvidsson is a considerable upgrade on Yamo for only 1.125 mil more. I understand the cap crunch is an issue but not Holland has done more with less. If this deal is offered Holland takes it without hesitation and does what he has to do to make it work. EDM makes out like bandits here.
