lmao Yotes lose their retention slot for 8 years for a freaking 900k retention on OEL

this trade is next level poisonous for both team

I mean, Arizona still made away like bandits, even if it cost them a retention slot for 8 years. The trade is Dylan Guenther, Jack McBain, Adam Zlnka and 8 years of retention slot for Connor Garland and a horrid OEL buyout.

That is a horrid buyout for Vancouver, Arizona probably hates it too because now they have a 8 year buyout

The cap hit is negligible. And it saves them around a million of real cash. Losing the retention slot for eight years is pretty fed up, though.

I'm going to be completly honest, at the time I thought the OEL trade was good for the canucks. Boy was I wrong. Absolutly horrid trade unless Vancouver pulls an amazing Garland trade out of nowhere (which seems very unlikely).

There’s quite a few teams that need to move a reasonable nhler out for cap relief and there’s the Blackhawks who need like … wow, basically half a roster. They gotta get a bit more in the locker room for bedard. If I were Chicago I’d play the role of salary cap relief.

I think it makes the most sense for the hawks to keep their futures so a group can be similarly aged.

So if I were the hawks I’d go after Feogle, Granlund, (not Vancouver anymore after oel?), help Boston maybe, other stuff we don’t know about, etc, and try to sign O’Rielly as ufa for leadership to build training habits. That’s 4+ quality nhlers that would not cost substantial futures, in some cases free.

I mean they’re going to suck this way, but that’s what I’d do so in 6 years I’d be polishing the wheels of my fancy new wagon.

Was pretty happy to move OEL. Disappointed giving up Garland. I thought OEL would rebound. Extremely talented guy whose heart was clearly not in it after his mom died. Also didn't love Tocchet. Thought a fresh start would do him good. Turns out he's still mopey, not getting younger, and was reunited with Tocc. Brutal for Vancouver.

Their big advantage (which they should leverage fully) is that they can eat the big-dollar contracts that other teams with space won't have the appetite for. I don't think Arizona, for instance, would touch Murray even if he came with a first. Chicago wouldn't have to think twice. Same with Granlund and a few others where the real cash cost is high. Chicago is essentially the only game in town for offloading those guys. Where they'll have "competition" and lower returns are the low cash guys. Leave those to the bottom feeders and maximize the return for the cap and roster spots.

Reported 2023 draft players Canucks have been interested in:
Sandin Pelikka
Danielson
Willander
Wood
Barlow
Benson

Hopefully they trade down if they are going to pick any of these guys. Danielson seems like a Bo Horvat type pick. Good defensive reputation in juniors, not the biggest producer. Willander has a high floor, but ceiling is in question

Sandin is a very safe pick trust me. Guys nickname is the ankle breaker for a reason. Having a Dman like that aint a bad thing

I wouldn't be too upset about drafting ASP, however it feels like his skillset is a little redundant. Doesn't make sense pairing him with Hughes. Also wouldn't be getting PP time with Hughes and Hronek. If I were the Canucks, I may trade down for someone like Simashev who could potentially be a steal if he improves his offensive game.
My rankings right now are:
Bedard
Fantilli
Carlson
Smith
Michkov
Leonard
Benson
Reinbacher
Moore
Dvorsky

If all those 10 guys are gone, trading down makes some sense if they can grab a 2nd round pick

Trade back to 28 in exchange for Liljegren and a 3rd so the Leafs can pick Barlow

Liligren is not worth dropping 17 spots.

By using last year as an example, the 11th overall was traded for the 28th, 34th, and 45th overall. If you switched the 3rd to a 2nd, it would make more sense.

Agreed.
His 2023 playoff "play" (if you want to call it that) was abysmal.
Best he tries other sports - like the Sr PGA or Blue Rinse Bowling or Lawn Darts or...
