The only player the Kings would want is Helly and they will not be giving up those players for a short term solution.

Kings cannot fit PLD and Hellebuyck. This would put them at the ceiling with only 10 forwards and 5 D on the roster, effectively forcing them to gut any depth they had for cap space.

There’s interest in Hellebuyck obviously, but I believe they’ll pass on Dubois.

Hurricanes need more scoring, so why not Scheifele?

Dylan is a legit 4/5 NHL D and the Blue Jackets just made two “win now” trades to improve their defence. Ceulemans projects to be a 4/5 defenceman if he gets there, as many prospects never pan out. Why does Columbus “laugh and hang up”?

What’s stopping the Kings from extending Hellebuyck for another 4 or 5 seasons? Also, the Kings are said to be “leaning hard” into a trade for Dubois with Vilardi and Byfield players in the rumours. Why wouldn’t it be a realistic trade if the Kings and Hellebuyck can agree to an extension which shouldn’t be difficult?

As to affording both Hellebuyck and Dubois beyond this upcoming season, I guess it just depends on Kopitar’s ask on his next contract which would coincide with year one of Hellebuyck’s new contract.

You said it yourself, they just made 2 big trades to improve their defense. They already have an excess of defensemen now, Dillon is redundant and trading a guy you picked in the 1st 2 years ago would be dumb af for a rental that you don't need.

Bc they’re not moving KK and their second or third best prospect for a year of scheif. And before you say they could extend them, think about that - if they’re potentially not extending gjys like Skjei and pesce and let other guys like Dougie go in the past as they get to age 30 while looking for an extension so they would do the same thing to him. Not to mention the fit is questionable and even if you’re solving one need you’re creating a big hole at the same time. No thanks.

I agree that Scheifele wouldn't fit the Hurricanes' style. There are only a few people that I think the Hurricanes would give a contract to in their thirties and almost all of them are on the Hurricanes rn

Canes wouldn’t trade Morrow one for one here. Scheifele isn’t a target because he’s a pure rental, they wouldn’t sign him long term. Congrats on the retool however, sure it was a fun exercise

Multiple reasons as to why Sheifele won’t be a Hurricane. First of all, he has his attitude baggage. Secondly, he doesn’t play defense, so he would already be set up to fail in the Canes defense first system. And the next 2 reasons involve age and his next contract. Oh, and the price you have here, Canes will gladly keep KK and Morrow.

Why does Carolina, Columbus and Boston want to trade long term controlled assets for UFA's?

Because their GMs are in “win now” mode and the Jets are shifting their window to win for several seasons from now.

Canes aren’t going to go all in and sacrifice another 5-7 years of contention, especially not when Schief is the “all in” move..have to take into consideration who you’re trading with and what they actually need, how they operate, etc.

All Brenden Dillon does for the Jackets is handcuff their cap situation now.

What is the cost for Demelo and Nino? What are the pluses add to to drury?

Canes won’t be interested in Scheifele. Too much to acquire, too old to extend, wouldn’t play center for us, doesn’t play defense, and has locker room issues.

That trade is horrendous for Boston. They aren't trading their second best prospect for a 13th forward

As I understand it, Bruins have huge cap issues going into next season. Harkins is a point producing machine in the AHL, but he’s never had a fair shot at a top 6 roll with the Jets. He is beyond NHL ready at a league minimum cap hit, so he’s exactly the kind of player the Bruins will be looking to add to stretch their cap dollars.

I see the Bruins trying to hold it all together for another season or two and remain Cup competitive until their rebuild cycle begins. For this reason, they will be about players that can help them now and not a prospect that won’t be ready until well after their window closes. Plus, as you probably know, Boston’s prospects are currently really poor, so it’s not like you’d be trading away a sure fire top pair or even middle pair defenceman.
