I can't really think of any other realistic way for Nill to create the cap space to re-sign Dellandrea and have more than 12 forwards.

Faksa or Marchment for nothing is probably the best bet.

That, or those two for a D-man.

Would trade Marchment+pick/prospect for Tanev. That'd be ideal scenario.

Marchment is close with the coaching staff (both DeBoer and Sprott), so trading him right now seems unlikely. Dumping Faksa with that contract is gonna be expensive and then leaves us without a 4C. Steel is kinda meh.

One deal I could see is something around Faksa for Murphy

Not a huge fan of Murphy, and I don't think we can afford that.

He had a pretty meh season (14 Points in 29 games) with Detroit picked it up with Boston though.

Its smarter for him to wait

As playing with Matthews and Marner or JT and Willy this guys gonna wrack up points

And with the big cap jump coming next year he can sign a bigger deal

As rather than 5mill longterm he can get 6.5mill potentially next year either with us or another team

Murray meet LTIR...LTIR Meet Murray

I like it as if Bertuzzi sucks or has injury problems wont have to pay to dump him

Allows for more cap certainty next year and allows him to potentially get more

Win-Win

They don't need to dump anybody. They have 300k of LTIR space

Yeah but he got a QO

It's been obvious from the start that Murray is gone

For sure, without a doubt. My guess is that the Leafs are exploring the trade market before falling back on a buyout after taking Samsonov to arbitration

Boston…

1. Trade Taylor Hall to make room for Bertuzzi
2. Let Bertuzzi go to rival
3. Sign Milan Lucic instead

…oof

Waiting until Armia gets bought out. His buyout isn't even that bad and it would allow us to build up cap space during the season (we also need more roster spaces)

I'd sooner buyout Hoffman. Armia can play anywhere, while Hoffman is a turnover machine that needs sheltering.
Armia makes things easier on the young players. Hoffman makes them more difficult.
Open up a top 9 spot and some PP time rather than a 4th line spot/PK.

Armia can play 4th line part time and be sent up and down through waivers with no risk. If he does get claimed, it works in our favor.
Hoffman would have to play a big role in order to have any chance of getting value back for him. That ship has sailed with the way the market looks this year.
Maybe still a slight chance of moving him with retention prior to the season beginning, but ideally we don't want him playing once the season starts. Just a waste of ice time.
