Dollar amount is fine, but don't love the term. Definitely a good defenseman though

Decent deal

Too long

I've seen this guy get burned so many times on breakaways.

I know that most of people here will complain about the term. But I'm fine with that, cause he's just 28 and the AAV is very good for a good shutdown d-man that blocks 152 shots last regular season. He'll be very useful in our PK with his physical presence. I mean, he's 6'5, 220 lbs player. I really like this signing for Pens. He's the second best LHD in this FA, behind Orlov.

The fallacy of Graves' size. He is NOT a physical defender

This tanks any chance of the pens being good next yr, they're gonna be playing a 3rd pair guy 22+ mins a night with Letang now!!!

I'm with you and not the naysayers. Graves is the guy I most wanted to partner with Jamie Drysdale. I wanted to give hm about the same amount of money -- $5 million for 5 seasons, but you can structure this 6-season deal by frontloading it so that the last year is a virtual nullity. I'm envious.

This is a good signing, we needed a defensively solid guy who can anchor one of our top offensive guys. Could slot in with EK, Letang, or Petry. Long term but this is what we need. Now that Jarry signing...

He's a top-4 which can play about 20 min and Pens will bring Karlsson very soon. Pens is the only team negotiating to trade for him right now.

I respectfully disagree. You probably didn't watch any New Jersey game. He's not great, but he played well in regular season. Besides, he's just 28 and has margin to improve a little bit. Specially playing along Karlsson.

The Penguins needed to upgrade left defense. Dumoulin played his way out of Pittsburgh with bad defensive play. (Seattle looks forward to their defensemen imploding. LOL.) Graves is a solid defenseman who clears the puck, shuts down the opposition, and makes his presence known. He is a great signing.

I'm guessing the Pens fell out of the Noah Hanifin sweepstakes because they didn't have the assets to pay the Flames, as Rob Rossi's initial reporting seemed to have indicated. Pittsburgh was on Hanifin's short list, and he was amenable to signing an extension if acquired, but this was really the next best thing that didn't require giving up any of the pitiable number of trade assets that Kyle Dubas had on hand.

Graves seems like the kind of player that should mesh well with Kris Letang. Term's a non-issue to me at this point, considering that the Pens have pushed all their chips into the middle of the table at this point. As David Farragut once said, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead." It's Cup or bust for Crosby and Friends at this point.

Lots of term, hopefully he’s a good replacement to Dumo
