If Dallas got Pesce I'd bet on them to win the Cup.

That's pretty funny tbh... Even with Pesce, they'd be the third best team in the league at best

At this point I'm not convinced that Carolina trades Pesce

That's pretty funny since Dallas won more Playoff games than Carolina did.

Still not as good as Toews and Makar, but that's a tall hurdle. Miro, Pesce would certainly be pretty dang elite.

The Canes were injured to s***, unlike Dallas. They simply got goalied in the ECF due to that reason. And although Pesce's great, Karlsson may actually be an overall upgrade and (depending on the retention numbers) a better fit for the Canes' cap structure. It would again be a very close race in the playoffs for everyone.

Oh yeah. Only Carolina had players playing with injuries. Everyone else was healthy. Do teams not pay their goalies? I could've sworn they're part of the team?

The Hurricanes were missing two of their top six that year for the entire playoffs and lost every single game in the ECF by one goal. They get Svech back and some added reinforcements in Orlov and Bunting... I get that Dallas is good but they just don't have the depth on the front end to be a legit contender unlike the Golden Knights, Hurricanes, and Devils

Easily 2nd best against Toews and Makar and depending on how injuries work out next season they could definitely be the best. If Dallas made this trade I'd be very nervous.

Does a team really want to extend Pesce for eight years? His new contract starts when he almost 30 years of age.

There is a reason Don Waddell doesn't want to give him that term

It's not really about "wanting" so much as it is what the premium RHD clearly are able to get in UFA (see the Severson sign-and-trade). Some organizations are more willing to stomach this reality than others.

It isn't the fact that the Hurricanes were injured it was who was injured... which other team came into the playoffs without two of their top six players and then lost another one for a series and a half

Severson proved how ridiculous the Columbus signing was. He didn't even want to go venture into free agency because he knew no team what offer nearly as much term as Columbus did. It has to be about the money to be willing to play in Columbus, it's not like it's childhood dream, or the want to be on a competitive team.

I personally think that the Canes and Pesce will actually agree on an extension and that the EK talks are contractual leverage on Carolina's end. I think that they will eventually agree to something like 6 years. Sure, maybe 5 is ideal, but considering that countless clubs are known to hand out 8 years to scarce commodities like premium RHD, I think that they find a way to settle at 6.

Here's the reason, I really think these almost all of these sign and trades are so impractical. So the CONTENDING Canes, call a meeting with Pesce. "Hey Brett. We want your ass outta town, so hurry up and sign and extension so we can trade you to Dallas. Now if you can't come to a new contract agreement with Dallas, you are welcome back into the Cane family as we go for a Cup run."

I wanna be in on that meeting.

I can't think of one trade ever where a CONTENDING team asked/told, one of important players to negotiate a contract with another team when the player was under contract for one more full year.
It seems to be CapFriendly fantasy.

Even when you look at the rosters there is no team better than the Hurricanes or Devils. I think the Hurricanes and Devils have the best-constructed rosters in the league when you consider the all-around game. Sure a team like the Leafs might have more offensive firepower but the Hurricanes have much better defenders (both forwards and d-men) and goaltending and enough firepower to put them over the edge. The Atlantic might be the best division but none of the teams in there are better than the Hurricanes or Devils

Best constructed roster but can't win dog all with their current roster. It's crazy to think no teams in the Atlantic are better than the Hurricanes when one of those teams swept you. How can the division be the best but not have any better teams? Makes no sense.
