while all 4 players are overpaid for their current play... theyre still useful players and all 4 teams involved are contending now, so giving up assets for a rebuild in a year seems pre mature.

Then drop the pick compensation with the player dump that the Hawks will gladly accept next summer. That is the point. All 4 of these teams are cap strapped and looking to shed bad salary to buy new FAs next summer. Send the Hawks the approriate draft capitol and they will take away your bad contract.

Buying him out actually gives us cap space next year cause of how Goodrow’s contract is structured. Giving up a pick just doesn’t make sense for the Rangers.

If you are paying a 1st for a cap dump the player still needs to be a 3rd line forward or middle dman

Giving away a first round pick to trade a perfectly good player and then turning around and spending that money in free agency where players are typically good but not great is a backwards move
