Not sure what would happen with this top line. Would they erupt offensively or have the worst +/- in the league? Either way, it would be a lot of fun!

Calm down guys. This is 3 x 1st round picks between the 2 1sts and Barron.

One of the 1sts is probably top 10 this year because of the strength of the Division.

While I respect that you love your player, if he was worth what you all think, he would have a contract already.

would be fun to chat but there are too many p***ies here sometimes. Looking to fight instead of learning about the sport or management of assets. Wouldn't be cool to see them with kids in a cards game lol

I just don't like any place where original thought or creativity is frowned upon.

Hockey teams and fans are so conservative, and it's part of the reason Hockey is falling to the 5th biggest sport in North America.

Hate my deal all you want, but if you are going to comment, let's at least discuss the deal and why it's "so bad" for Anaheim.

Anaheim need size, so they trade their best prospect for forward with "size" ? That's not how it works.

That trade would set Anaheim back 2 years, and for what ? 2 mid round picks and ok-ish RHD ?

The deal is bad because Anaheim is moving a star forward with a high ceiling for.

1. A cap dump that is almost 30 and because you just moved zegras won’t be of any use to Anaheim once they are a PO team again
2. Barron Projects to be a number 4 dman at best, Anaheim also just doesn’t need RHD prospects, especially when they have 3 RHD prospects with a higher ceiling anyways (drysdale/Warren/luneau)
3. Those 1sts aren’t guaranteed talent, the 2024 draft is a weak class so unless that pick is a top 5 pick it’s a major risk for Anaheim as by 2025 Montreal will have a competitive team and the pick will be mid to end of the 1st.

You mention that because zegras isn’t signed he isn’t the star people think he is.

Remember when nylander held out on a contract extension? This has nothing to do with Zegras’s skill it’s probably a dispute over zegras wants either a bridge deal 4x7-8 mill or a deal around 8x9.5-10 but Anaheim wants to try to lock him 8x8.5. Most these disputes just come to players betting on themselves that they can perform better and earn more money.

Half the time it comes down aswell to the players agent not being satisfied and holding out for a better contract for their client, gotta remember hockey is just as much business as it is a sport

No lol it’s a bad offer, if you really think about it and what most these assets true value are

As a leaf’s fans would you have accepted this deal for nylander when he was 22 holding out on a contract extension, and before you even got to see his true potential and skill???

That ain't gonna happen here. Too many just reply with insults because they are hidding behind keyboards instead of discussing rationaly and indicating what could be changed in order for someone's AGM could potentially work or not.

I'll just comment on why Anaheim wouldn't move Zegras to Habs.. While Habs would need to provide 1st unprotected picks, and notable players, I don't think ANA would be able to trade him out since they would be hammered in the media and by the fans. Unfortunately, I don't think Habs have players that could be moved to satisfy a trade for him. And unless Zegars specifically says he would want out of ANA they will pay him at some point to ensure he's on the ice come October. From the reports, Zegras doesn't want to sign long term, but I think is is not that he doesn't want to commit to ANA, but mostly because of the cap situation where players of his caliber will wait to see if they can get more come 3 to 4 years from now.

Matthews did that in Toronto, while he got the 13.5M$/yr if he's unhappy in 4 years from now he can move on, if he's happy and there is more cap room, he'll get 3 to 5M$ more a year which will give him more than he would've gotten from TOR had he signed for longer.

Zegras must be looking into that thinking if it goes well, he'll get more down the line.. Or he can opt out and go elswhere if the deal goes beyond is RFA status. Brige deal seem to be more like it for now.

I think Habs would need to give the next 2 years of 1st, Dach (if he's fully ready to play and at 95% healthy minimum), Ghule and possibily even another one like Harris. Is Zegras worth this? In my mind, I don't think he does, but I think it's what they would ask for in order to move his caliber. SUzuki and Caufield are long term signings, so I don't think ANA would go for these guys at this point.

I wouldn't do this if I were the Habs. Two possible top 10 picks alone are worth more than Zegras to the Habs.

If they want to make this package then they should target Dobson or another young potential top pairing dman. Eveen then though it's a risk they shouldn't be taking yet.

I like the creativity though and making a balanced trade

And ANA isn’t just entering a rebuild. Z is ready to make an impact while young enough that he’ll be in his peak through ANA’s entire compete window. Any team that keeps trading players like that will perpetually be rebuilding. We’re not Arizona

i assume you mean 2 mid first round picks, most likely one if not both is a top 10 pick. I dont think Anaheim does it because they dont want to lose Zegras but at least be honest about the value that there is in that package. Zegras has had a solid start to his career but he still got a ways to go before hes untouchable.

It's giving up the all star talent we desperately need, pushes the rebuild back even further, and loses the face of our franchise.

In exchange we get a RHD who's draft team viewed him as excess goods, not a 1st round piece, and a couple lotto tickets to TRY and draft another Zegras.

Furthermore, your justification of "if he was that valuable, he would already have a contract" is horse s***. Or do Nylander and Marner not have that much value either?

Yes, mid 1st round picks, but still it's bad for Anaheim. They get nothing of value, they have to wait 3-5 years before getting value out of this trade. I think Zegras is overrated, but he is still top 6 forward for any NHL team.

Come up with a package of your pieces that you'd want if you were trading Caufield, and then add

Don't blame others because your deal sucked. Take some accountability.
