Pretty much 0 risk with how he’s played so far. I think this will look spectacular in a few years.

Price is unimportant. Buffalo has three cornerstones of their defense . . . and it looks to be a high-quality defense already . . . locked up for the balance of this decade. Sabres fans should be thrilled.

Will still be 28 when it expires (and will have collected $60 million by then). $100 million man.

Sabres take a bit of a gamble but I’m confident GMKA knows what they have and will develop into. If it pays off it might be a steal in the long run. What I also like about this deal is that Sabres are paying heavy up front (when there is ample Cap space) and at the end of the contract will seem like a deal. I like it for Owen as he’s UFA at only 27 (prime) and can cash in for big.

This is why this is such a bad contract. We didn't get anything, he is 28 and a ufa at the end of the contract, we got one year of his ufa status.

87 games in the NHL, wonder how many hypocrites will be here praising this that bashed Sanderson getting 8.05 for just 77 games played

Sanderson's on-ice goal differential was ~6 below expected last year.
Power's was ~24 ABOVE.

Sanderson needs to grow to become a top-pair defencemen. Power is already there.

These types of contracts almost never backfire. Chabot's did, but his floor was a lot lower than Power's. This is as close to a slam dunk as you can get for a young defenseman, imo. My only issue is that BUF would've been better off w/ 8 years. Still an A+ signing.

The only thing with an 8-year deal is that would leave both him and Dahlin expiring as UFAs at the same time. Better to stagger them. BUF already went through Drury and Briere walking on the same day...it's been utter misery in BUF since that awful day in team history...in 2007!

Samuelsson is the only one with a team friendly deal right now.

Dahlin + Power will probably improve and make 11m + 8.4m look team friendly.

But they're both slightly above market value right now ... which is 100% fine for Buffalo.

Power has a $916K AAV right now.
Dahlin has a $6mm AAV right now.

This is what separates the Sabres from the Sens and Wings, IMO for that playoff gateway; their elite D-core and if Levi can take control of the net is not something that the others are on track yet. Senators are close and the Chychrun deal got them in range; but goaltending has eluded them (although I like their prospect pool there).

Good deal, Power, Dahlin and Samuelsson will be the pillars of that Sabres defence and now they all have long term team friendly deals

I like the deals but the Dahlin and Power deals are not team friendly. They are market value deals more or less. And the Samuelsson contract wasn’t him taking a pay cut. Nonetheless, it’s well done by Adams locking up his core to great contracts

I think the only thing I dont like about it is that it isn’t 8 years, this is a heck of a deal, Sabres look like they are going to be a wagon starting soon and below market deals like this one will become will allow for them to add surrounding pieces for a reasonable price. Well done

Buffalo's d-core is looking real nice right now and they'll be the deadliest core in the league soon

Sabres are set for a long time now! TNT, Dahlin, Power, Cozens, Samuellson. now they just need to lockup Levi

That’s debatable. It’s something I’ve given a lot of thought to, and I can see advantages both ways. If you’re confident that you’re going to be able to extend them, then it probably is better for cap management to stagger them, but if you think they’re more likely to walk, it might be better to have all your top players expire at the same time. Then you’d know exactly how long your win window is going to be. You could manage to that and gear up for the rebuild after. I get that there’s no guarantee that a rebuild will get you back to the top, but the alternative is a slow decline into mediocrity as a bit of your core disappears each year, or desperation moves to try to keep the win window open a couple more years but often end up weighing you down when you ultimately do have to rebuild.
