Off menu goalies

Created by: NHLfan10506

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 5, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
It’s the same group of goalies in most trades

(A) Unwanted Goalies
- Campbell
- Samsonov

(B) Third favorite goalies
- Allen
- Martin
- Reimer

(C) Goalies of the past
- Gibson
- Markstrom

But many of these names don’t really improve us all that much (I personally believe there is a bigger issue to fix with puck control, especially in dzone). But if we were going to add a goalie mid-season (no reason to think we will), I would cast wider net to guys like following….

(D) Goalies getting outdone by back-ups
- Binnington
- Husso
- Kuemper
- Jarry
- Shesterkin
- Vejmelka

(E) Goalies without NTC
- Daccord
- Ingram
- Lyon
- Vejmelka
- Ullmark (Losing NTC protection)
- (Demko, Hart, Saros, Sorokin, Swayman also NTC)

(F) Day-in-the-Sun Back-ups
- Fleury
- Lankinen
- Stolarz

(G) Young studs blocked
- Askarov
- Knight
- Wolf

In short, cast a wider net of goalies. I know not everyone is available, but if Fitzy is shopping, he is likely considering a much longer list of targets (than just choosing between Allen and Gibson).

And if they are going to make us pay a price we are uncomfortable paying…it should be for a goalie they are uncomfortable giving up.

----

Also…worth noting that the reporter that has Ben pushing the story that Fitzy has been calling around about goalies was the same guy why said Devils were shopping Mike McLeod (since retracted) and said last spring that it was known that Meier trade included Holtz and was 50/50 on Mercer. Fitzy has said that he does not like swapping goalies in-season (and has said, as a former deadline tradee himself, he prefers adding in off-season). So there is ample reason to think NJD goalie-shopping is off-target

Reimer would sell easier than Husso, no?
But Lyon ain't gonna the fella cut. Only competent goalie.

Detroit will sell Reimer or Husso probably but only if they're out of the race and provided we have healthy alternatives.

Goalies who have seen their better days. Not saying they are bad now…but the best is probably behind them.

(Not opposed to such options…but don’t think the expected prices).

I think the bucket of goalies that Reimer falls into appears to be a crowded one. Over supply…hence, less likely he moves. But you all would know Detroit side more than I.

I think if Husso was healthy they'd move Reimer easy but he isn't a solution for your goalie issues.

I know no one wants to be the dummy who paid too much for a goalie but just for a second think about what NJ would look like with this seasons Hellebucyk on it........ flushed cheeks

Yeah its gonna suck in 27-28 but every year till then is gonna be Weeeeeeeeeeeee!

Get a primo goalie NJ, you literally have everything else already. Holtz, Casey, 2025 1st and Vanacek for Saros. Do it, you cowards. squinting with tongue out

That's a Holtz too much on Saros at least, and if it's Casey+1st on a goalie I'd be sending it for Swayman

Markstrom and Gibson's contracts are horrible. Regarding Detroit, I would like to add Cossa to the list of off limits.

Daccord could be the dark horse in the pack.

I would take that russian rangers goalie, I already know his first name..
On second thought cant we just trade for the rags goalie coach?!
Rogalski and 2nd for whoever it is that works his black magic on goaltenders over there..

NJ wouldn't like the price of Monty

He just signed a multi-year extension. It's a bad look for a team to sign a guy and immediately trade him away. That only happens in video games.

I wouldn't say Cossa is off limits but Detroit has no need to trade him. So the offer would have to be pretty impressive.

Reimer would sell easier than Husso, no?
But Lyon ain't gonna the fella cut. Only competent goalie.

I think if Husso was healthy they'd move Reimer easy but he isn't a solution for your goalie issues.

Honestly I'd put all of them on the block and trade the one who brings in the biggest return.

I'd end up in a psychiatric ward if I had to go through the entire season with Husso and Reimer as my tandem.

Goalies who have seen their better days. Not saying they are bad now…but the best is probably behind them.

(Not opposed to such options…but don’t think the expected prices).

Their performance this season directly disputes your claim.

So their play in the past?

based on their age and trends, overall career arcs, they are probably on a downward trend through the life of their contracts

I think you have past confused with present. You guys are talking about future, NJ needs to address their goaltending right now and those 2 are statistically among the top 5 goalies in the league currently.

In the current season (the one we are in right now) Markstrom is the 2nd best goalie in the league while Gibson is the 5th. This is presently the case. You cannot proclaim them goalies of the past when they are actively among the top 5 goalies in the league... like if Vanacek gets a shutout next game in your mind is he the current best goalie in the league because that just happened and everything before yesterday was the "past"?

If I had to pick a goalie to win me a playoff series today neither Markstrom or Gibson would be in my top 10 choices

You can have this opinion. But it will be a lonely one.
