Canucks easily decline. Not only is the value off, but the deal makes zero sense from their perspective. Matheson is an offensively minded defenceman, we already have three of those with Hughes, Hronek, and Myers, we certainly don't need a 4th (already been there tried that with OEL, and look at how that turned out). He wouldn't be on the PP, and to my knowledge doesn't kill penalties either, and giving up that much for a guy who is only a 2nd pair defenceman with no special teams time is a bad idea. Canucks just dealt for Zadorov so won't move him, plus he's a better fit for the team than Matheson. We also aren't giving up our top prospect for a player we don't need who has a bad history of trying to injure our star player in the past. Really doesn't make sense from Vancouver's perspective on any level whatsoever.

Montreal fans just found out who Lekkerimaki is after wjc, they're hoping to trade for him before anyone else realizes who he is.

In the vein of his post would probably be cheaper for Vancouver to acquire Ostlund and Wallberg from Buffalo then to get Lekkerimaki from Vancouver. A future PP with Lekkerimaki-Hughes-Petey at the top of the umbrella could be crazy

Fair points all around, made this late at night and totally forgot that matheson and Peterson have that history. I know it would cost more for lekkerimaki, I was just gagging what it would cost. Realistically out of both players Howard was the highest likelihood of being traded due to lightnings lack of picks, prospects and cap. It will be interesting to see what happens in a few months.
