Not an Avalanche fan, but I suspect it's a pretty hard no, unless the return is a 2c with comparable age and contract.

That’s a laughable offer. Mercer plus a kicker gets the conversation started.

They said no flat out for cutter Gauthier.. I doubt that's the package that lands him

While I don’t think this offer is enough, it’s a completely different scenario than Cutter (also that was speculation)

Cutter gauthier will not play in the NHL this year. He is useless to Colorado this year.

Both Toffoli and Bahl are actual quality NHLers right now and save just under 2 mill in cap space to make further moves for Colorado

lets put it this way, if they wanted to have toffoli and bahl, they would not need to trade byram for him.

I agree. But this “cutter gauthier” thing I’ve seen multiple times no has no bearing as a comp.

Toffoli is an NHL ready quality top 6 winger who can help a team win a Stanley cup now.

Cutter gauthier is a college player.

If it was “they turned down guentzel for byram” that would make sense as a comp to indicate Byram is not available for a rental winger. But cutter just isn’t the same type of asset

Just like how Chicago wouldn’t buy a rental for one of their guy, but they would take a pick or prospext

well i get what you are saying. but it illustrate that they turned down much better offer value wise. if thry wanted they could have flipped gauthier to get much vetter rental players too.

you just dont trade some of your most valuable asset for rentals, GM dont event have to turn down those offers. i havent read that the devils turned down a trade nemec for tarasenko to know its not the right value or that it doesnt make sense to begin with.

Good grief no, that's horrible and useless for the Avs. Toffoli isn't a position of need and is an over 30 rental in this scenario and then downgrading from Byram to Bahl on D. Terrible.

I wouldn't say Byram is untouchable (and there won't be too many ACGMs with Byram being traded from the Avs side, though I have done one myself as you well know) but he's probably available at the right price.

If Colorado moves Byram, it will be for a long term solution at 2C.

Toffoli is great but the Avs don't need him. At least not for their best trade chip. Lehkonen will be back before the all-star break, Kovalenko will join the team around the trade deadline, and Nichushkin should be back before the playoffs. He'd be a redundancy. The Avs have actual holes in their lineup they need to fill.

Everything costs “Holtz + 1st”

I was asking a question…I don’t know what they want, need or if he is even available.

Are the making him available? Or is this just ACGM people talking.

Thank you. Appreciate someone answering the question.

I would think 2C probably means Mercer or McLeod+
One is mostly a winger, one is really a typical 3C.
Not sure there would be a match.

Bahl is awesome in about 25% of the games he plays!

(The guys there were just filler…probably should have left blank).

I completely agree. Value wise I’d say it’s just under a 1st short

I was just pointing out the cutter gauthier comp was dumb because he’s not even the same type of asset. At least toffoli and bahl can help the current avs squad in some way

CF nonsense, Freidman said on a podcast that PHI asked about him for Gauthier but COL said what are you adding.

McLeod, '25 1st & 2nd (so you don't lose what may be a pretty high pick in this year's draft and roll the dice on '25) for Byram, RyJo, Meyers, '25 3rd. Deal? cool

Yeah, yeah I know I'm hot for the Highlander but that's my offer! tears of joy

Seriously though....tbh if they were to move Byram it's going to take something significant and as far as I'm aware Mercer hasn't played C much? That's probably where the conversation starts though (and then start adding) if the Avs like him enough. Hard to see another piece that would interest them enough. I also wasn't making light of Toffoli's value, he simply isn't a need for the Avs.

Mercer plays a lot of center. And a lot at RW. And on PK. And on PP. Never missed a game. Kind of an everywhere, anywhere type of guy.

But also not one we would move.

Yeah, I don't think there is really an ideal match there as the pieces the other team wants are simply not pieces the other team wants to let go of. It has made for some good natured & fun debate though which is nice to find on here. smile

Mercer would fit on every team in the NHL. There’s no team that couldn’t use Mercer.

Can play any position, is dirt cheap cap wise this year. If you’re a rebuilder get those 8 years and get a bargain down the line, if you’re all in for the next 3 years give him a cheaper bridge deal

Top-6 centers are impossible to find (outside the draft)

Maybe try NYI. They have been playing Barzal on wing. Or LAK who have swapped Byfield to center and Dubois to wing.
