1. No history
2. No injury
3. Rivalry game
4. Not the instigator
I think that the player should argue that the showboating during live play was an instigation. The player should argue that out of the last 15,000 empty net goals, he cannot find another that looks like this one did. He should argue that if the players are discouraged from policing themselves then the league will be worse off in the long run.
Whether any of that is true? Shrug emoji. It’s what I’d argue. Send me in coach.
$5k fine cause keep ur stick down.
Summary: it is acceptable for players to hold other players accountable for on-ice actions. Showboating during play is rarely seen because most players respect the game enough to know better. Hitting them with sticks is unacceptable. There is no point in further penalty as the behavior will happen again if similar incident happens again. Just like it does in every other dangerous sport.

Sorry bruh, but that's the wrong answer cause you are giving "700+ players a free-bee" as they all one day started w/ NO HISTORY...
To make formative, culture change happen, it has to be:
"McDavid = 5 games min"
"Marchand = 5 games min"
Rielly = " " "
Lady Byng = " " "
etc etc etc ....

Ironically I found something thats gonna make Rielly and currently Perron's suspensions look pretty bad
I voted for 8 because it's one-quarter of the season left.
Nice to know that the next time Connor McDavid scores an empty-net goal, Ross Johnston can cross-check him in the head and get 5 games "because the celebration was showing us up."
Same. I think you can put any crosscheck to the head after the whistle within 1 game of that for the near future.
If it's not harsh enough of a result, they will avoid 3rd party arbitration while keeping the message consistent.
If it causes an injury or is especially violent, they'll go for 6-10 games.
I would like to believe they will be consistent in at least this area moving forward, but history has shown otherwise.
