Last Night Was Painful

Initial Creation Date: Mar. 28, 2024
Published: Mar. 28, 2024

Description
I think they need to make legitimate changes to shake up the chemistry of the room. The complacency just seems wild. I know the season has been realistically lost for a couple weeks now but they could have pushed for mathematic life if nothing else. The Granato extension means he's gonna be back IMHO. The whole staff should be switch outside of that though. Some of my favourite blast from the past names:
Lindy Ruff to be either a Senior Advisor or an Associate Coach depending on how hands on DTD he wants to be. Terry won't give up the control required to have a PoHO until they have to promote Kevyn so they can promote Karmanos to GM.
Vaclav Varada as an Assistant Coach. Three time coach of the year and champion coach in Czechia.

Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Severson, Damon
Additional Details:
This is assuming that the two players will waive their NTC/NMC.
I could see Severson being willing as the Sabres are a bit better of a team and there's the promise of playing in a Top4 with Dahlin, Power, and Byram for the foreseeable future.
Skinner is a bit trickier, but Columbus isn't all that much farther from home for him, (6 hour drive instead of 3 hours) anyone who has experienced the GTA will tell you that Buffalo-Toronto-Buffalo is still not something you wanna do in a day so you might as well stay over lol. He also still will have elite talent to play with (Fantilli and this year's 1st).
CBJ
  1. Krebs, Peyton [RFA Rights]
  2. Skinner, Jeff
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Opens up space for Mateychuk/Jiricek/Boqvist in CBJ lineup and if Krebs isn't a good fit he has enough value that they can bounce him along and get a different piece.

  1. Necas, Martin [RFA Rights]

It's an interesting offer for Necas, but it would still need something like Peterka to make this work. Joki doesn't hold a lot of value, and while the 10th OA pick is nice, it's just not enough for a 65-70 point winger

I wouldn't trade Peterka for Necas straight up.

I'd consider this for Columbus, Severson's deal already isn't aging well. But...teams don't trade guys one year into an 8 year deal. I think he and Skinner both say no.

That's certainly a take. If Peterka isn't on the table, you're not getting Necas

MN has another year of both Rossi's ELC and Middleton's contract....no rush at all to do something like this, pretty easy decline.

Peterka is a 3 years younger, cost controlled asset that is already on the fringe of Necas' production while playing for a bottom of the standings team. That would be bad asset management.

Peterka has the potential to be better than Necas in a year or two. Trading him away would be the stupidest thing they could do. Especially since Necas will just cost more or walk away in the near future.

I love the idea of adding Varada to the coaching staff. But most of the trades you have don’t make a lot of sense for Buffalo. I think most of the issue is a problem of coaching, and bringing in a new voice can make all the difference.

What is with all the Rossi trades on here lately, is there rumors about him getting traded or something?

Yeah there's been some rumblings. The main beat reporter for the Wild, Michael Russo, has on several occasions speculated that he thinks the Wild would consider shopping him this summer.

Who knows how much stock to put in that, but that's where the rumors are stemming from.

On the finges of Necas's production... what he's got 45 points while Necas is on pace for 65 again while playing in a much more defensively demanding system and not getting top line TOI...

He's RFA, sign him 8 years. Peterka won't be better than Necas, ESPECIALLY if Necas gets away from the system where offensive talent goes to die.

Peterka already has more even strength production than Necas this year and is younger and more team control on a team that isn’t as good offensively than the canes. I wouldn’t trade him for Necas straight up either let alone adding a top 10 pick. The guy you’re responding to over values Necas like crazy. Necas is a very good player but some canes fans like caniac think he’s a superstar

Peterka has more even strength points with less TOI while playing on a team that isn’t as good offensively as the canes

Yeah and Necas has more TOI this season than peterka. ES pts/60 Peterka is at 2.4 and Necas is at 2.2. Necas is on the third best PP team in the league and Peterka is on the 5th worst. Necas is -7 on a team that is +49. Peterka is +8 on a team that is -4 on the year. There’s a good argument Peterka is almost as good at 22 than Necas is at 25. I wouldn’t trade Peterka one for one for Necas and I’m not a Sabres a fan

So your defense here is +/-, and the fact Peterka has 1 more ES point in 5 games more...? You completely ignore that the Canes system strangles individual offensive talent and it's why Aho's 90 point season this year is so incredible and ignore the fact Buffalo love to cheat up the ice which encourages scoring? I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about here. Necas is not only drastically outproducing Peterka, his age 22 season drastically outproduced Peterka...

You’re being obtuse and ignoring that despite 5 less games played Necas has much more TOI. Not only that he’s on a much better offensive team than Peterka. Peterka is on pace to surpass Necas career high in goal totals too in his age 22 season. Not to mention Necas will need a new contract. Necas being a -7 despite being on one of the best teams in the league is not great. He’s also regressing despite being on one of the best teams in the league. Peterka on the other hand is a plus 8 on a bottom team in the league. When you take into account age and cost I would rather have Peterka

No way Minni trades Rossi for that. Sabres should just keep Skinner for three years avoiding Severson for seven, never mind giving up the extras in the trades
Don't think Necas would sign that contract.
