MTL decline in a heartbeat. Even with a contract, Drai isn’t worth that

That might be what Drai is worth, but Montreal is not going to do that as of right now

Habs are gonna pass on this one bud, nice to think of us, but it's not 2017 anymore - we are not as desperate to get a 1C anymore.

If Leon came with an extension then the Habs do that in a heartbeat.

No they don’t. Drai can’t even win with McDavid and that oilers roster, What makes you think Montreal would give up all those assets(and don’t forget we’re a rebuilding team). If drai couldn’t win in Edmonton he definitely won’t be able to win with the roster Montreal has

If Montreal wasn’t rebuilding and were in win now mode, sure they make that trade. But we’re rebuilding, we aren’t giving up valuable assets for Drai

He would be the best player to put a Canadians jersey on since Lafleur. It's a massive package but frankly a 100 point player gets that kind of package.

It would also leave the Habs with all their young dcore, Caufield, Slaf and Newhook. That trade would instantly put the Habs in playoff contention and they'd still have cap space to add significantly.

Wouldn’t we better off waiting to see if Drai hits the open market and make a bid for him there? It’s just a risky trade for the Habs with the state their in right now

But I do agree with a lot of what you said

I think that depends on his contract. If he agreed to a sign and trade, I'd do this, if no extension in place you wait and throw 14 million at him next off season

Like you already said, he’d have to 100% come with an extension. He’s a superstar player but it’s just a high risk high reward type trade for Montreal

Tampa Bay declines. They aren't using $2.75m in cap space for a 3rd pair D man.

MTL would need to accept before the NTC is relevant, and they wouldn’t

Suzuki is an 80 ish point center, Dach is supposed to be equal or better but let's just value him at what he has achieved so far which is about 40 points, Draisaitl over the last 3 years has averaged about 110 points. I know Drai is a great player but the Habs need to add scoring not take it away. Draisaitl isn't likely to score 110+ points with the Habs and the Habs aren't likely to trade 2 top 6 centers with (hopefully) 140-160 point potential + a 1st + 2nd just to get a player who is gonna struggle to put up 100 points in Montreal.

They probably should spend 2.5-3 for a 3RD upgrade, as long as they move out the Sheary and Perbix contracts(which they should). Kulak wouldn't be the one I'd target, though, since he plays the left mainly, and there are likely better options in ufa

I really don't get all the Perbix hate on this site. He makes some mistakes, but he's a solid, affordable 3rd pair option.

He's been their worst dman outside of CDH (who doesn't even play much), for the last third of the season. He's regressed pretty badly after a solid rookie campaign. JBB may still be able to get some value for him, and with his low cap hit, he won't be hard to move if Tampa needs the space(which they probably will). Crozier and then Schmidt will likely replace him soon enough, not to mention Powell, who has looked better than Perbix did when.comparing NCAA careers.
