23-24 LA KINGS
With the cap increasing next year, I’m curious why you believe the Kings would make any of these trades. How does this help them?

I could see that happening with AZ looking to circumvent the cap floor.

LA could probably just get Jones on waivers next season if they wanted him. Same for NY with Madden. We’ll pass on sending the third.

Selling for Futures
I think LA would pass. Gavrikov is proving to be a good fit and they have the money to sign him. I also don’t think they need Hart. They can try to sign Korpisalo and stow away Petersen in Ontario for another year since they have the cap space.

In depth look at what the Pens should do roster and hockey ops
I think LA would rather bring back Jeff Solomon as a VP or Special Assistant rather than Hextall. But that would be funny to see a GM trade somewhere. The fan base has had a love hate relationship with Blake, but we would never make that trade. Blake’s done well.

Brieres rebuild
I’m not going to speak to the value of the LA trade, but I don’t think it works. They already have a log jam of forwards and this makes it worse when they can still keep Turcotte in Ontario for another year. This would also be bad asset management if they make this deal instead of just signing Korpisalo. The same can be said about getting Provorov at the expense of losing Gavrikov that LA already spent draft capital on. I don’t see the motivation from LA’s perspective.

If we lose round 1
First point: From the perspective of a Kings fan, this valuation is way too low. Given that they’d have to pay a lot more, and there’s no guarantee he’d sign a long term deal, there’s too much risk.
Second point: Danault has a NMC. He won’t waive to a team that signals it’s rebuilding.

An actual Matthews trade to LA
There’s no guarantee Matthews would resign with LA. Blake wouldn’t risk setting back everything he’s done the last few years. I don’t see any chance this could happen. Dubas wouldn’t trade him anyway.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>You are right. We should trade our Norris caliber defensemen for Matt Roy because of one game</div></div>
First of all, the Norris values offense primarily over defense. Notwithstanding, I wouldn’t expect Buffalo to trade 1:1. My point was that those two are the only players LA would have any interest in from Buffalo if they want Roy. Playoff teams don’t sell these kinds of players for prospects and draft picks. They consolidate for better players. I meant to complement Power and Dahlin.

Funny as it may be, this Roy valuation is the real joke. If you had him, Buffalo wouldn’t have yielded 10 goals to Dallas. Roy has been awesome since being paired with Gavrikov and away from Durzi.

If you want Roy, either Power or Dahlin are coming to LA. You can add to the trade but that would be non-negotiable otherwise. Roy is a legit first pair RD.

LA would rather sign Korpisalo and then trade Copley for positive value if they were looking to move him. Kings decline.

As a Kings fan, I think that’s reasonable. I also think Petersen is going to rebound based on how he’s improved in Ontario. This could be a win win.

Outstanding TDL from Rob Blake
What still doesn’t make sense to me is shipping out a first and a third for two rentals. It’s not consistent with the rebuild when I don’t see us as cup contenders this year.
As it relates to Quick, the writing was on the wall when they signed Copley and still had Petersen. I expected him to not be resigned. But in hindsight they still had the cap space to keep him. Some plan must have flopped for someone else. This isn’t as big a fail as the Sekera trade, but it feels similar.

I think eventually Durzi is moving to third pair and rotating between Walker and Edler. It looks like Gavrikov was skating with Roy. Roy has shown some savvy ability to jump into the play lately, so I think that would make a nice shutdown pairing. I like the idea of that and keeping Durzi as the 2nd PP QB.
It’s too early for Byfield back at center. Did you see a reason to shake the lines up? They seem to have good chemistry as Todd is rolling them out. One thing I’m certain about - you don’t break up Danault and Arvidsson.

I don’t know a single Kings fan who would move Byfield at this point. He’s on the first line and his playmaking is very good. It will take some time with the goal scoring, but he’s only 21. Easy pass by LA.

Cap space is not nearly as valuable as it was last year. Even if Petersen is at a negative trade value, based on the comps, I could see a second rounder or two thirds.

I wouldn’t trade Walker unless he gets back a 2nd rounder with no salary retention. He’s a good depth defenseman and playing well. LA isn’t desperate and should keep him if GMs don’t overpay.

I think that’s the most likely scenario. On another note, with 5.2 million in cap now we might be able to leverage to get a pick back or bring someone else in. I hope this is not it before Friday.
